For a month now, Russian forces have repeatedly attacked Ukrainian medical facilities, striking at hospitals, ambulances, medics, patients and even newborns — with at least 34 assaults independently documented by The Associated Press.
Russia will come out of this war as the world's largest pariah state. The European community will edge away from Russian energy. As for the rest, if it can't be extracted from the ground or grown in the ground, Russia basically exports little that anybody wants.

ReplyDeleteRussia has done a bang-up job of demonstrating that while it claims a great deal of territory it has very little control of said territory, and now even less ability to exert it. Japan is already making moves to reclaim territories lost a hundred and ten/fifteen years ago. China's a bigger boat to turn, but I suspect before too much longer will move to challenge Russian claims. Siberia is worth a helluvalot more than Hong Kong. Yurp is like "wo, we been kissing this wimp's ass all this time?" 'MuirKKKa is mired in the mud.

I've written a time or two about the best laid plans of mice and men, of how one need oft admire the tenacity, regardless ones' distaste with what they've done, to work across generations, millennia even, to a common order or agreed upon end ... only to have something completely unexpected, unplanned for, unanticipated, blow all those plans completely out of the water.
We could be seeing the birth of a new world order ...
