DD-214 Fraudsters

I am hearing that basically, people who get out of the service are being counselled to apply for diability benefits from the VA, whether or not they are actually disabled.

It seems to be massive fraud, aided and abetted by the armed forces.

"Thank you for your service"?? Maybe "why the fuck aren't you in prison for defrauding the government" is more truthful.

  1. Comrade Misfit,

I was at a veteran themed car show a few years ago with the Patriot Guard Riders. A representative of the V.A. approached me to chat. When he found out I was in the Army AND had tinnitus, even though not service related, he tried to get me to apply for benefits of (I think) $140 per month. I got pissed and told him I would rather the money go to someone that truly needs it.

  2. Wow ... when I was getting kicked out there were 214's on the market that would reflect not getting kicked out, which didn't make a lot of sense to me, I was just happy to be out of there. Even though I got it fixed years ago, I was actually pretty proud of that dishonorable.

You had to be there ...

  3. Just the opposite here, severe tinnitus in two freqs from heavy artillery in Vietnam. DVD refused me a penny.

  4. I get $152.64/month for 10% service-connected disability - tinnitus. I was a 60mm mortar gunner/squad leader in Nam. My ears were up close and personal to the muzzle. NVA and Charles never gave me enough time to shove cigarette filters in my ears.

TG, the local American Legion helped me with my award, but it took 10 years. Check out your state and local vet services.

  5. Back in the day there was an insult for that: for commies and pinkos. Interesting though officially anecdotal as I've only ever seen it once in print, but apparently the WWII GIs referred to the NAZIs as ... bundles of firewood.

This is supposed to be in the clown thread, I don't know how it ended up here

  6. I've been out for over 30 years.
A recently ex-USN new hire at work told me he has a 25% disability (he seems 100% fine) and told me I should apply for any kind of disability, 30+ years after getting out, because it is apparently really easy now..
