The Supreme Court on [January 19, 2022] denied former President Donald Trump's request for a stay of a lower court mandate that hundreds of pages of his presidential records from Jan. 6 be turned over to the congressional committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The vote was 8-1. Justice Clarence Thomas would have granted the application.
So why was Thomas so intent on shielding Trump's records, one might ask. It's because those records implicated his wife in pushing Trump's Big Lie.
Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, sent weeks of text messages imploring White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to act to overturn the 2020 presidential election — furthering then-President Donald Trump’s lies that the free and fair vote was marred by nonexistent fraud, according to copies of the messages obtained by The Washington Post and CBS News.
So, to recap, a guy who has sworn to uphold the Constitution was apparently shielding his wife in her attempts to stage a coup and overthrow the duly elected government.
