Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on “licensed professionals” and “members of the general public” to report the parents of transgender minors to state authorities if it appears the minors are receiving gender-affirming medical care.
The directive was part of a letter Abbott, a Republican, sent Tuesday to the Department of Family and Protective Services, calling on it to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation” of any reported instances of minors undergoing “elective procedures for gender transitioning.”
Abbott’s letter follows an opinion released Monday by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, which stated that allowing minors to receive transition care such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery is child abuse under state law.
This is what so-called conservative politicians do: Interfere in the medical affairs of families in order to score cheap political points with their Christian Taliban base. Transgendered kids are their culture war target du jour. The Christian Taliban is like every other moralistic religious group (including the kiddie-fuckers in cassocks), they arrogate to themselves the right to decide what is right and wrong for you, for your family.
It's what they do. It's what they've always done. It's why, for many decades, it has been true that the best thing to see in Texas is the state line.
This one struck me as being just gratuitous cruelty. For abortion bans, they at least have a fig leaf of the "poor innocent fetus". This is just inflicting pain on teens already in distress, and interfering with the actions of parents and doctors.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that the DA’s in the biggest cities have already told Abbott and co. to pound sand.
ReplyDeleteFuckwad Paxton is simply trying to distract from the criminal cases he’s facing. He sat down with a family in 2016 to discuss this subject and over dinner promised to protect their rights and those of their transgender child…here’s the open letter from the parents:

before my kids became legal adults, i didn't allow them to decide for themselves what time they would come home, or whether they would drink and drive. i sure as hell would not allow them to undergo treatment such as this, and i would say that anyone who allows a confused minor to get them to go along with it, is an unfit parent
ReplyDeleteOK, two things: First, this was mostly done to distract from the scandals and deep legal shit the Republicans at the top of Texas' state government are up to their eyeballs in, and second, so giving testosterone to a twelve year old trans boy is child abuse, but making a twelve year old girl bear her rapists child is just ducky?
ReplyDeleteThese are some sick and twisted people.

Once every blue moon , I've traversed the panhandle crossing Texas on I40. Not once have I ventured further south into that miserable , desolate den of inbreds.
ReplyDeleteNever into Miss. or Louisiana. For sure !
I live in Florida and must travel out west on occasion.
It is difficult to get there without crossing through some really backward states.
Usually choosing to dash straight north through Alabama, avoiding Georgia too !
Unknown, cruelty is the point.
ReplyDeleteOntoiran, if a family decides that such treatment is appropriate, in consultation with medical professionals, then I don't see what interest it is of Texas's government to interfere. Are they going to start regulating cancer treatment that might interfere with fertility? If a woman chooses to undergo breast removal because the risk of developing cancer is unacceptable to her, will the state of Texas deny her that choice?
This is a slippery road, where medical procedures are subject to political approval. Conservatives, who bleat they in favor of freedom, are loudly tromping down that road.
People are going to be whatever they choose to be. I so wish the God-botherers would go back to worrying about Church attendance and forget getting involved in current affairs and medical decisions. A better world it would be.
ReplyDeleteOr in other words, who gave these assholes the idea they could interfere in someone else's personal affairs? We need to put a stop to that idea right now.
