But it will make little difference. Whether out of honest reasons or because they've drunk the Right-Wing/Russian Kool-Aid, the only way we're now going to get through this pandemic is if the virus can burn through as many of those fools as possible, either to get to herd immunity or to dirt-nap them, or both.
On another notide, I'm thinking of replacing the Stinson Gull-Wings at the top of the page with this:
Comments?
I prefer the Gullwings.
ReplyDeletePretty much what I told my son last night, when he called to report everyone in his family: girlfriend, new baby girl, ex-wife, her husband, their new kid, the older kids are all exposed, several displaying symptoms. He's probably not going to speak to me for a couple weeks.
ReplyDeleteI hold Zuckerberg responsible ...
I didn't realize how much I missed the picture of the planes until they came back after the Beto-break. I don't know much about planes, but something tells me the gull-wings are flashy gas-pigs, like a tail-fin 50's Cadillac.
ReplyDeleteAs an alternative to replacing the planes with the "No Stupids" sign, how about promoting Chairman Meow above the EU disclaimer and doing a side-by-side with the cat? I have a blogger page that's been languishing for a few years. but from what I remember, it's likely possible.
I don't think I agree with you much on gun laws, but otherwise this blog rocks. The only time I ever shot a gun was after my Grandpa built a 99 step staircase down to Lake Michigan from his cottage. He bought the gun to shoot varmints that were chewing up the wood. He let me shoot at the lake when there weren't any boats around. That was when I was about ten. I don't think I missed.
It isn't just stupidity, it's a disconnection from reality. Our people (if we can even say that honestly about some remnant of cultural cohesion) are the victims of the Greatest Generation's success. Who sacrificed blood, sweat and lives to fight the way clear of the Great Depression and win WWII to usher in 60 years of (mostly) glorious, seemingly endless gravy train for their kids, the Boomer generation. Who then assumed this gift as an endless entitlement to goodies, privilege and all manner of freedoms, no sacrifice, no reality checks, no sweat required. We were born on third base and think we hit a triple. Consider the Christianity political assertion: God Bless America. It's an imperative, a command, like we were hitting the bell at the front desk for a bellhop to deliver more blessings. More properly, we might say, May God bless America.
ReplyDeleteThe Karens are indicative of this entitlement, as are the Proud Boys (what a name! I have to think they are false-pride infantilized bully boys, not men).
Over the last 20 years, the bill has begun to be presented, and much of America is outraged that they should have to pay:
= to have some regard (much less any reparation) for theft from and abuse of this land's indigenes
= ditto about black folk and slavery. How dare "they" teach our children CRT about the shit that went down
= to have to actually take personal steps and sacrifice some freedom (which never was free or without cost) to promote public health and manage a contagion closing in on the death of a million Americans. Public health worked so well for 70 years that people have come to take it as an entitled right. Not so, any more than you can cross the street without checking the traffic
= to stop seeing how we can "make money" by film-flam, by robbing the pillars, by arbitrage, by psychopathically seeing everything but your own existence as an externality. The church of Jeebus Trump is Lord and we worship his Second Coming. To learn again, to respect again honest work, expertise, sacrifice and real productive creativity.
= above all, to recognize reality, objective facts, respect science and competence, to stop the horseshit of thinking you can dream up some Flat Earth/ivermectin/whatever BS to preserve the bubble of your specialness and privilege.
Sweet Lord. Jefferson: I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.
Revelations 18:
ReplyDeleteAnd he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Substitute Fox News for Babylon, and you get the idea.
I'd miss the Gullwings, but there's an SR-8B on display an hour away.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and see if the notice will filter out the less fact and data based discussions.
Announce that you are going with the "New" Earthbound Misfit, and switch to the sign. Then, after the long time readers complain, go back to the Stinson Gullwings, and call it "Classic" Earthbound Misfit.
ReplyDeleteYeem, how about this look?
ReplyDeleteI have that very sign on the gate at the end of my driveway. Among many others in the same vein.
ReplyDeleteWhere'd ya get the chart? I'm thinking it lacks any provenance, so by your own rules it is invalid.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, try reading this article:
https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/vaccinated-hospital-patients-outpace-the-unvaccinated-but-it-doesn-t-mean-the-shots-don-t-work-experts-1.5730793
Funny, that. More "vaccinated" people are in hospital with Covid, (although the severity is said to be less if one has had the Jab) (Notice I cite my work, as you always demand when you don't like the message, but don't do yourself)
There is a link to the source right under the chart, B. (You know, the way it's supposed to be done.)
ReplyDeleteIt's also in yesterday's NYTimes (where I'd wager Drum got it)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/01/09/us/omicron-cities-cases-hospitals.html
...about halfway down the article...
The link to the chart goes to a weblog. Not a valid data source even by your double standard standards. You'd criticize me if I used that as a source (rightly so) so why is a chart with no supporting data ok when you publish it just because it meets your confirmation bias?
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn’t bother to read the other comments. Stewart gave the source. But I suspect that unless the source is your Holy Fox News, it won’t pass muster with you.
ReplyDeleteYour arrogance is just a cover for the fact that your side’s stupidity is slowly thinning your ranks, either from death or from waking up to the truth that the Gods of the Right are lying to them.
B,you either didn't read the article or you didn't understand it.
ReplyDelete286 patients out of 90 % of the population that are jabbed vs 274 patients out of the other 10% .
Conveniently misread or confirmation bias.
Please, I love the Stinson! Maybe put the idiots placard across the landing gear if you have to...
ReplyDeleteLaugh out loud ...
ReplyDeleteB, do you think nobody notices that you degrade and disregard any data that doesn’t support your POV, while at the same time you make extraordinary claims of how we’ve all been conditioned to sing from the same prayer-book from the other side of the aisle. You bring no data, no stories of people miraculously restored to health by horse worm medicine, and now, we are given the Biblical mandate to follow should one (and one is usually unvaxxed) comes down with the dread disease.
ReplyDeleteVaccine Police’ Founder Claims Drinking Your Own Urine Is Covid-19 Antidote

As you can see, it’s from Forbes. An entity not usually associated with the DNC.
B's exhibiting one of the uglier aspects of man's ability to think. The human creature likes to figure things out, like to be right, likes to have special knowledge that others don't...and inflict that special knowledge on his or her fellows. Eventually this can lose its tether to fact, reality and learning; being right is everything.
ReplyDeleteB isn't interested in reality, just in "Nyah, nyah, you're wrong!" playground trash talk. Trolling. What an ugly way to live. Scoliosis of the mind.
Fullflaps, I think the current layout will work.
ReplyDeleteDA: I demean and "degrade" and disregard "data" that is conjecture, opinion, or unsupported, or comes from a site that has no history or background, as the above linked site was. not a news organization, not even one like the NYT. I am sorry you cannot tell the difference between opinion and data, but you've made that mistake before if it matched your confirmation bias. A better education might have helped you understand the difference, but it is what it is.
ReplyDeleteThe original link went to a Blog, with no attribution as to who drew the lines nor how the data was collected and analyzed.....Just some lines on a chart. Were I to use that as a source, you folks here would ridicule me and rightly so. That isn't data.
Only ^later^ was it shown (in the comments here) that the chart was copied (with no attribution) from the NYT.
Geewillikers, Ladies and Gents, what would we ever do without the Almighty B here, to pass on what evidence he deems to be sound enough to satisfy his gaze?
ReplyDeleteDA: I demean and "degrade" and disregard "data" that is conjecture, opinion, or unsupported, or comes from a site that has no history or background, as the above linked site was. not a news organization, not even one like the NYT.
ReplyDeleteHate to break it to you, B, but the NYT is a reliable source, you’ve managed to have news from nowhere to confute and anull the scientific findings. You also disregarded what others told you about the graph. But that’s par for the course with you.
B, You definitely disregarded the information in the article you referenced.
ReplyDeleteAnd you will ignore the correction as you always do.
Liars gonna lie.
ReplyDeleteDale
Respectfully DTWND, I don't see that as B's situation. He isn't lying because that would mean that he has some grasp of objective fact and reality. It is more that he's fallen so far down the rabbit hole of conspiracy-think and tribalism, he no longer has that grasp. Like a swimmer 15' down, on a lightless night, he no longer knows up from down.
ReplyDeleteMay the Lord have mercy on him and limit the collateral damage he wreaks.
I've been watching Blown Away (The Bridges, father and son, Tommy Lee Jones) where another more extreme, but like, madness reigns...and can watch no more. When people whip themselves up into madness and hate, they shred the bonds of humanity, civility, civilization and, of course, democracy....thinking themselves the Hand of God, Justice and the Right.
"These are the times that try men's souls..."
I like the planes, but the sign would be a nice change for a while.
