Rules Are For the Little People

UK:

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office apologized to Queen Elizabeth on Friday after it emerged that staff had partied late into the night in Downing Street on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral, at a time when mixing indoors was banned.

Queen Elizabeth was sitting by herself during the funeral service for her late husband while Boris Johnson was partying. Britons had their gatherings broken up by the police and people fined. But Johnson wasn't.

US:

Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, has continued to dine out at New York City restaurants despite testing positive for Covid-19.

The ex-Alaska governor, who is not vaccinated, was spotted on Wednesday eating outdoors at the upper east side restaurant Elio’s after testing positive for the illness, according to photos published by Mediaite. Palin had dined at the same restaurant on Saturday night, where she was seen eating indoors in violation of city rules requiring proof of vaccination for indoor dining
.

Average New Yorkers can't eat inside restaurants or go into a lot of other places without proof of vaccination, but Ol' Caribou Barbie can waltz into a restaurant without being vaccinated and not long after testing positive for Covid because she feels OK?

Well, she thinks she's something special, an elite, like Fat Boris, and the rules don't apply to them.

  1. This self importance as old as the Bible and in the famous words of Leona Helmsley "taxes are for little people".

  2. New Yorkers have been advised to get tested if they have had any contact with Ms. Palin.

  3. She can do anything she wants to: paint targets on congresspeople that result in an assassination attempt that leaves six people dead, including a nine-year-old child, seventeen wounded and the target of the assassination attempt disabled for the rest of her life.

There's a straight line from Sarah Palin painting targets on Democratic congresspeople to the Bundy Bois busting into an Oregon tourist kiosk closed for the winter and calling it an "armed insurrection" to Donald Drumpf uck and the Dipshits' January 6th violent attempt to overthrow the government.

  4. ...and that wonderful Latin: Fiat justitia, sed ruat coelum Let justice be done, though the heavens fall....

And conservatives often have that entitlement that, since they're the good guys, by that fact, they can break no laws. Two excellent posts:
    https://lancemannion.typepad.com/lance_mannion/2005/07/why_conservativ.html
But let's focus on that sizeable contingent of Law and Order conservatives who would be satisfied to see half their fellow citizens hauled off in chains and who are also of the familiar "One phone call and I'll have your badge" type.

These folks don't worry about an out of control police force. But it's not just because they think the cops would never dare turn on them. They also believe that the only way to attract the wrong kind of attention from the police is to commit a crime and they know that they themselves never commit crimes.

And they don't. Most of them. Most of them, like most Americans, are fairly law-abiding.

But when they do break the law or when---as is more likely, because it's true, most of them are honest and diligent citizens---one of their kind breaks the law, they tend not to see what's been done as a breaking of the law. They don't believe they or people like them can be criminals.

"Criminals are others. Criminals are part of the great NOT US. And since we are not criminals, by definition, we cannot commit crimes."

Actions that look to the rest of us very much like crimes, because they are, they see as mistakes, misunderstandings, follies, personal failures of nerve, strength, or thought that ought to be condemned but forgiven and never prosecuted.

Both good stuff and worth a read....

  5. It's not just Palin and BoJo. Don't forget all the Democrat pols who partied hardy in Florida, far away from their locked down states. AOC and Michigan Gov Whitmer are only two of many.

The rot runs entirely through the Ruling Class.
