Veterans' Day

Today was originally set to honor those who had died in the Great War or who were missing. In 1954, the holiday was changed in the United States to honor all veterans, living or not. In many other nations, it is called Remembrance Day, to much the same effect.

If you are serving in the armed forces, or if you have served, thank you for doing so,

In New York City, a man was charged with murdering a World War I veteran in 1976. More details here.

  1. When I was growing up in the '40s/'50s it was called Armistice Day.
