The FBI on Thursday identified human remains found in a Florida nature preserve as those of Brian Laundrie, a person of interest in the death of girlfriend Gabby Petito while the couple was on a cross-country road trip.
Far too much attention has been paid to this case because the victim was a pretty, long-haired, blonde white woman. Somebody could have murdered a dozen Black women and gotten far less press attention.
I thought the same thing when this series of news coverage got rolling. Watching the local Detroit TV news it's very frequent that coverage of a missing black woman comes up once but then you rarely see a follow up story. It seems like the news people don't want to work too hard so they look at what's trending that day and stick with it. If you change channels the stories and reporting seem the same but with different faces on the TV screen.
ReplyDeleteThe faces rarely do any news investigation its all AP News wire.
ReplyDeleteSo it all going to sound the same.
When thy do their own work its usually more local and about
groups that are often missed by the larger news wires.
Even then you hear little about black, brown, latino, sexual
minorities, unless its particularly heinous or gory.
Eck!
CHeck out the series of killings near Rocky Mount and Princeville NC. Several poor black sex workers. Nobody knows anything.
ReplyDeletePrincille has long been a hot spot for sex work among minority women.
It's not us.
ReplyDeleteThe news runs heavy coverage because they think it will drive eyeballs and revenue.
Then they lecture us over their failure to report similar events.
