Palestinians Claim Victory

Palestinians rallied by the thousands Friday after a cease-fire took effect in the latest Gaza war, with many viewing it as a costly but clear victory for the Islamic militant group Hamas.

Right. 250 or more dead, thousands wounded. Tens of thousands, if not a hundred thousand, lost their homes. 800,000 don't have running water.

That's "victory"?

If I had any sympathy for the Palestinians due to a lot of the bullshit that the Israel keeps pulling, that's gone.

ETA: This, from 2009.

  1. Somebody punches you, you hit them back twice as hard. What do you expect Hamas to do, now switch over to pacifism?

  2. Always a massive disproportion in applied violence between the puny, unguided Hamas rockets and the full force of the US supplied Israeli forces. 100-1 in casualties in most cases. Not enough deaths, injury and destruction to force the average Israeli voter to stop supporting apartaid and the world's oldest and largest outdoor prison. But what choice do the palastinians realistically have? Unleash their tanks and fighter bombers? Ask Israel nicely to give them back a small corner of their own ancestral homeland? Hunger strike? Politely ask the US to stop supporting their oppression? Like the USSR fighting the Nazis, they can only sacrifice the lives of their people. Or live forever under the racist occupiers' boot. No solution to this predicament. Now, tell me again why Israel bombed the news station. Because, like their ally and bff trump, Israel believes the press is the enemy of the people?

  3. Last I heard, Hamas opened the ball on this particular exchange of ordnance.

You don't like that Israel doesn't play nice? You need me to remind you who taught Jews the lesson that playing nice is for suckers?

  4. Yeah, we learned that lesson: come in from the cold, turn in your guns, we'll take care of you. See how that turned out? The American solution to the "Indian Problem" won accolades from the man himself, as he was applying it to his own "problem", laying the groundwork for where we are today.

Yeah, yeah, the Americans are uniquely responsible for this ...

  5. War is very basic. Its savage, bloody ugly, and something you
don't want to loose if you are the instigator.

They throw a rock and persist, sooner or later the response is
to drop a mountain on them.

As to the press and others, there is a lot of noise and no
useful help. Hamas does not want to concede. I see the
situation as untenable and one side will suffer.

To them I'd say instead of buying guns, explosives,
and crappy rockets, buy concrete and steel and build
schools, cities, and an economy. Plant farms and
    find water.x

The better decision by the belligerents is to stop. Stop
fighting for lost kin, stop fighting for a land that just
about every major religion claims as theirs. Long life
and prosperity is not embodied in fighting a war.

That said I don't like what Israel is doing but I
understand why they are doing that. Everyone wishes
to survive, its a basic right. They seem to have the
strength and resolve to do what they feel is the needful
    thing when provoked.

    Eck!

  6. You really think the Israelis want the Palestinians to prosper?

  9. Typically of the middle east, after violent paroxysms like this it's back to the same old, same old, minus a bunch of Palestinians that, if anyone actually cared about them, something would have been done. The only remarkable thing is that Biden, using * diplomacy*, convinced both sides to knock it off in such a way that everyone could claim "victory". I'll take it.

  10. The Chinese Mainland Regime and Premier Pooh Bear are taking lessons from the Israelis. But the Israelis will never be dumb enough to trust them.

  13. There's no good answer to this question, no good reason to turn against each other. I have learned is it best to keep my thoroughly researched and rather concrete observations on the matter to myself, no good can come from airing them. The die is cast, the blood will run as deep as a horse's bridle, keeping mine and myself alive is all that matters.

This is a divisive, diversionary tactic, don't get sucked into it.

  14. The latest report is that the Israeli pilots couldn’t stop the rockets so they brought down the building that housed AP and Al Jazerra. If there was a tactic better designed to become an own goal, this is one of them.

  15. One should really not fuck with Israel. They are the Prussia of The Middle East after all, quite thoroughly educated by the murderous and well organized antisemitism of European Fascism.

You see, it's not "Never Again." It's actually "No quarter asked. No quarter given."

  16. @Dark Avenger: I expect Hamas had 'rocket spotters' on the roof. A few dudes with binoculars and a cellphone.

  17. Hamas was originally strengthened by the Israelis who wanted an alternative to Fatah. To quote St. Theresa of Avila, more tears are shed over
    Answered prayers(Hamas replacing Fatah).
