What he said.
Republicans have had no qualms about passing tax cut after tax cut to benefit the rich, including tax breaks that directly benefitted TFG. But boy, oh boy, let a bill come up that actually helps peole who aren't rich and you can read and hear the whining.
Let's take a look at the polling for this bill:
76 percent said they back the stimulus package, including 52 percent who said they “strongly” support the bill. Only 17 percent of voters said they oppose it.
Support is highest among Democrats, 70 percent of whom said they strongly back the legislation, which includes $1,400 in direct payments to some Americans, $350 billion in emergency funding for state and local governments, funding to support the reopening of K-12 schools and higher education and an extension of increased unemployment benefits until September. Nineteen percent said they somewhat support it.
A combined 71 percent of independents said they support the stimulus package, compared with 22 percent who oppose it.
While Republicans offered the lowest amount of support, more than half of GOP voters still back the stimulus package at 60 percent. Thirty percent said they somewhat or strongly oppose the package.
76% of Americans supported the bill, 60% of Republicans supported the bill and yet not a single Republican voted for it.
The attack ads almost write themselves.
The GQP is reclaiming their mantle as the Party of Hoover.
How you gonna pay for it?
ReplyDeleteAnd if it is all about "Helping People", then why all the Pork?
Seriously.

ReplyDeleteLet's see... The Republicans had a trifecta during the first half of the Fergus administration and their only major legislative accomplishment for his entire term was a $1.9 trillion dollar tax cut for corporations and the wealthy that was mostly used to buy back stock and enhance the wealth of the stockholders in those corporations. So I guess the obvious way to "pay for it" would be to repeal those tax cuts, but deficit spending doesn't work like that and you know it.
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats now have a precarious trifecta and in the first fifty days have passed a $1.9 trillion rescue plan that funds the vaccination effort to end the covid pandemic, rescues state and local governments which have borne the brunt of the frontline covid response and were staring down the barrel of massive layoffs of teachers and firefighters and cops, cuts child poverty in half and poverty at large by a third, reduces the cost of health insurance for millions of citizens while also making COBRA insurance for those who have lost jobs that came with their health insurance free for a couple of years.
And more ways the ACA is shored up and expanded to meet the needs of the covid infected and the covid unemployed.
And because of reconciliation, those healthcare provisions have to expire at the end of next year, right after the midterms, which are now officially about keeping one's health insurance by reelecting Democrats or losing it by electing Republicans.
You know, as a Democrat, you don't get that many opportunities to be unambiguously proud of them as politicians, but this is one of those times. As president Biden said to then president Obama a decade ago, this is a big fucking deal.

B,As any Republican knows it takes tax money to pay for things and the way to raise more taxes is to cut the taxes of the rich. You can see how well that worked in the prior Republican administrations when the national debt plummeted. S~
ReplyDeleteWe're gonna' pay for it with your tax dollars, *.
ReplyDeleteElections have consequences, suck it up, you lost, get over it.
B: To quote Dick Cheney, “Deficits don’t matter.” When Cheetolini ran up the deficit with his tax giveaways for the rich, I don’t remember you objecting to it back then. Funny how that works, ain’t it?
ReplyDelete“Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter,” Vice President Dick Cheney said when the Bush administration sought a second round of tax cuts in 2003. This fits with a rich tradition of conservative tax-cutters abandoning deficit hawkery when they want to hand money to favored groups. But some economists on the left agree with Cheney that deficits don’t matter—at least not as much as more jobs and prosperity for all—and their views are getting newfound attention because of an offhand comment by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Why won’t Biden toss a bone ( the size of a T. rex femur) to the poor hedge fund managers and millionaires?
“How are you gonna pay for it” only seems to be a concern when Democrats are in power, B. It’s never a concern when Republicans are in power. Your side reviled Bush41 for actually doing something about the deficit.
ReplyDeleteThat dog don’t hunt no more.
I notice none of you have addressed the Pork. Odd that you ignore that. There is nearly 1/3 of the bill that is Pork. (Money that goes to Rich DNC supporter and their adherents).... WHy aren't you complaining about that?
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, Ten Bears shows his True Colors...Classy there, dude.
What is a tax cut, but pork going the other way, B?
ReplyDeleteI gotta hand it to B, acting like the DNC is filled with rich folks, which implies people like Rhonda Romney McDaniel are just salt of the earth types, trying to make it on a low six figure income.
ReplyDeleteAwww ... * can't handle the truth. Had no problem when the retards (look it up) were prancing around flaunting their fat asses with "Elections have consequences, suck it up." "You lost, get over it." but turn it back in her face and ohhhhhh ... "stay classy."
ReplyDeleteLOL
Ten Bears, please refresh my memory, which side in the past two elections had the saying, “Fuck your feelings?”.
ReplyDeleteB,
ReplyDeleteIts Ok if the Republi-Q party does it, Well, fair is fair.
The deficit grew like stink for the last 4 years under the
Orangeperil and the grandkids will be paying that one down,
so and why not now so there will be grandkids.
Pork I heard no squeal, 'cept yours. Again see above
Moscow Mitch is the king of pork and that last tax cut was
not for the poors, but the 6 and 7 figure club had a party
with it.
Still with the lies....
Eck!
It's only "pork" because you don't agree with it.
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest that if you want to more tightly control federal spending, you'd have better luck if you'd won more than one popular vote in a presidential election since the eighties, but even that would be a lie: Republican administrations are the ones that run up the deficits, and Democratic ones, in the withering onslaught of accusations of "tax and spend" and "socialism" reduce those deficits every damn time.
This shit is really getting old, and Democrats have finally wised up and begun ignoring it for the time being.
If you're worried about the deficit and debt, then answer me this question:
When did we finish paying off the debt we incurred fighting world war two?
Ten Bears was absolutely correct, as far as it goes, but we don't tend to actually pay off those huge numbers y'all try to scare the morons in your base with, they just become a smaller and smaller portions of GDP until they are no longer relevant as the economy continues to grow.
-Doug in Sugar Pine
Oddly, the economy grew when taxes were cut....It'd have been eve better but for Covid.
ReplyDeleteYou know it, even if you won't admit it. 'tisn't the Reublicans that like deficit spending. It is your side.
Barry Obama said (with a smirk) "we won". remember?
At the end of it, it is Dems that grow deficits by spending, R's by cutting taxes to grow the economy so that everyone gains. Until COvid, ther was RECORD unemployment during the Trump administration....for every demographic.
But don't let facts get in the way. You like what you believe, even if it is a bunch of lies.
OK here's the basic facts:
ReplyDeleteAlex Cole
@acnewsitics
Reagan took the deficit from 70 billion to 175 billion.
Bush 41 took it to 300 billion.
Clinton got it to zero.
Bush 43 took it from 0 to 1.2 trillion.
Obama halved it to 600 billion.
Trump’s got it back to a trillion.
Morons: “Democrats cause deficits.”
And here's a fact check rating the statement as "mostly true" but quibbling with the idea that presidents are solely responsible for the level of deficit:
https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2019/jul/29/tweets/republican-presidents-democrats-contribute-deficit/
Which is true. W couldn't have not only blown a $300 billion surplus but passed one each tax cut for each war he started without a) using budget reconciliation and b) the complicity of congress, but either way he ended up with a $1.41 trillion deficit after his "ownership society" cheerleading program for the goddamn housing bubble ended in the disaster that competent economists tried to warn him was coming, destroying some sixteen trillion dollars of ordinary Americans' wealth and landing us in the worst recession since the thirties. And the despicable bastard knew it was coming, but was betting that he'd be out of office before it hit.
And like Clinton before him, Obama cleaned up the disaster the previous Republican administration had left for him while the goddamn Republicans fought him at every turn to try not to let a Democratic president achieve anything he could brag about in political ads, while their constituents suffered through a five year too long recovery that had Obama enjoyed the same level of government spending that Fergus did his whole term, would have been back to full employment by 2014.
Those aren't a bunch of lies, those are the basic facts that underlie the the past four Republican administrations and how each of them blew up the deficit while accusing the Democrats of doing just that, then left to the Democrats the job of cleaning up their profligacy, time and time again.
"Oddly, the economy grew when taxes were cut..."
Well, oddly in that it didn't and never has. "Tax cuts pay for themselves" is the big Republican lie that preceded "the election was stolen" as the big lie du jour.
It is what Paul Krugman calls a zombie lie because no matter how many times it is killed by the evidence, it just keeps shambling along eating people's brains who should really know better, but find it really politically and professionally inconvenient to admit.
Or in a shorter version that you might understand: bullshit.
-Doug in Sugar Pine
Hey B, remember back when you denied that Covid was anything but the flu? Remember how you said that it was not serious unless 300,000 people died? Well, now we don't just have 6 Vietnam Wars worth of victims, we have 10 times!
ReplyDeleteI've got a nice tatami mat and a sharp knife if you want to do the right, proper, and honorable thing.
I volunteer to be the kaishakunin. I always wanted to do something Japanese at least once in my life.
ReplyDeleteDA, it would be considerably uncouth to deliberately dull the edge of the katana beforehand.
ReplyDeleteThus concludes yet another trip through the funhouse mirror.
