A New York City mall was evacuated Monday morning after a hoax device made to look like an explosive was found in a vehicle parked on a ramp in a parking garage, police said.

A self-described “American nationalist” suspected of leaving a hoax explosive device in a car at a New York City mall has turned himself in to police, a law enforcement official said.
Louis Shenker, 22, surrendered to officers around 3 a.m. Tuesday in Brooklyn, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly and did so on condition of anonymity. No charges have been announced.

Shenker has appeared on the online conspiracy show InfoWars and has filled his social media accounts with far-right views and buzzwords like “#MAGA” and “#StopTheSteal,” noting his support of Trump’s false claim that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
He'll have a harder time calling into Infowars from one of the state's long-term crossbar hotels, a place he's going to likely be for the next twenty or so years. Provided he doesn't get shanked along the way.
Still, one has to wonder just what the hell he was trying to achieve.
Nothing to wonder. For this mindset, chaos is an end in itself. It may not always lead to opportunity, but sometimes it is bound to.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, it is a somewhat more improvisatory flavor of the politique du pire (literally, "policy of worse"), which was the official strategy of the French Communist Party from 1945 until...not sure when.
The attempt to advance the idea that you ARE entitled to your own facts has collided with a generational failure to teach(and encourage) critical thinking, and led us here.These are attempts to convince us "sheeple" that their propagator's reality is*the* reality. We can expect this to continue until some consensus about what we see when we look out the same window can be established. Not optimistic.
