[T]he National Republican Congressional Committee acknowledged in a statement Monday that last week’s violence at the Capitol “has no place in our democracy” but said efforts to remove Trump from office would be divisive.
“The violence we saw unfold in our nation’s capital last week has no place in our democracy,” Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) said in a statement. “It was a disgusting and dangerous spectacle that ultimately cost people their lives.”
Emmer said, “We must come together to heal our nation,” but added that an effort led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to impeach Trump “will further divide us.”
That's just meaningless pap. Chris Christie has the right of it:
Chris Christie tells @GStephanopoulos Trump’s incitement of Capitol siege is an impeachable offense: “If inciting to insurrection isn’t, then I don’t really know what is.” https://t.co/FnD9YSf2TE pic.twitter.com/rONPP8C0x3

Trump incited an insurrection. There has to be real consequences for everyone involved. There can be no healing without justice. Otherwise, what we have will be a clear example of right-wing privilege. If a Black mob had assaulted the Capitol in the same way, the authorities would have had to hire reefer trucks to hold the bodies.
There were probably more cops at Bill Nye's March for Science than there was when the Trumpist Beer-Belly Putsch took place.
There is a corrollary to Occam's Razor that holds that one should never blame on cupidity that which can be blamed on stupidity. Either the Capitol Cops or the Segerant-At-Arms for the Capitol deliberately understaffed their forces on 1/6/21 or they were morons who paid no attention to the smoke signals.
There is now an argument being made that we should show leniency to the Trumpist mob, to go lightly on them and to make it clear to them that we are being merciful. I say: Fuck that noise. This wasn't your everyday garden-variety riot. These weren't a bunch of thugs looting package stores or burning car dealerships. These were insurrectionists, trying to overturn the results of a free and fair election. They were trying to put in their guy, who lost, because their guy has been spewing lies and baseless accusations for months on end.
They weren't trying to loot stores, they were trying to loot our country, to throw our democracy onto the ashheap.
For that, they need to be landed on with the full weight of the criminal justice system, starting with ten years for damaging a federal monument (a criminal charge advocated for by Trump).
The mercy shown to them should be the mercy that they are not being dealt with as insurrectionists once were: Dragged out into the public square and have their heads chopped off.
This "we must look forward, not back" stuff has to stop, and now seems a good time. When I was a kid, the school bus pickup was in front of the local volunteer fire department. Some of us (proud to say I wasn't one of them)amused themselves by daring each other to pull the alarm down & marking how far they had dared to go.Inevitably, the siren went off & the arriving volunteers were really angry.
ReplyDeleteI read last night that the capitol building, because it's dense and the people who work there need to be able to easily communicate, has its own cellular network with logs and everything, meaning that everyone who brought a phone there left an identifiable digital fingerprint of their every movement.
ReplyDeleteThat ought to make charging them a bit easier, and depending on how much location data is extractable, make for some compelling evidence at trial.

Seeing today that Parler suffered a major (99.9% content download, apparently). Described as a "goldmine of metadata", it includes timestamps & gps lat/long data with uploads. Ruh roh
ReplyDeleteSo the rioting/ransacking/killings weren't divisive??? This was the opening bid to a coup, installing fascism, and murdering those perceived to be standing in their way. The Republican Party has fractured and the traitors are now members of the Insurrection Party. The RNCC has self identified with mobocracy and should be considered a terrorist entity and an enemy of Democracy and America.
ReplyDeleteTime to go to jail assholes (just as soon as we round you up now that you are no fly listed!). BTW, thanks for providing us with your photos and ID's! The ignorance, stupidity, failed invasion, and brazen chest thumping insanity leaves me breathless.
It seems we're not done yet as State Capitols have been warned of assaults on January 20th. Joe and Kamala need to do a remote swearing in; the face painted Nazi loving insurgents are still plotting.
What words can you quote wherein "Trump incited a rebellion"?
ReplyDeleteOr are you just repeating what the Media and your political masters told you?
And "Thre can be no healing without Justice"...tell that to the business owners that were trashed in the mobs that the DNC folks incited last summer.
Or are standards different when it is an approved riot?
Standards are different when it is a violent attempt to overthrow the government that murdered a Fergus supporting cop by bashing his head in with a fire extinguisher inside the capitol building, B.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes. Fergus did incite it. You've seen the video. No matter how retarded or infantile they are, orders given by the president of the United States to a mob stand a logical nonzero chance of being followed. That's incitement, whether he and you want to weasel out of it or not.
And Republican assholes paid to bus the goons in that stormed the capitol.
And the DOJ and pentagon made good and certain those insurrectionists didn't have any more resistance than they would on any normal day in DC despite the entreaties of the capitol police for reinforcements.
And it was such a roaring success in their eyes that they are planning an even larger, more violent event on the seventeenth in DC, and according to the FBI, at all fifty state capitols.
Should they, in your opinion, be allowed to proceed with their plans? If so, why?

It was an "approved riot", aeh ... incited. Out of your mouth, *.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you might think, this dishonored old outlaw can get on an airplane.
Operation "Just Let Them Speak" is working even better than we had hoped for.
B, ask and it shall be given unto you. This is from that Commie equivalent of Fox News, Vice

“Our country has had enough. We will not take it any more and that’s what this is all about. To use a favourite term that all of you people really came up with, we will stop the steal. Today I will lay out just some of the evidence proving that we won this election, and we won it by a landslide. This was not a close election. I say sometimes jokingly, but there’s no joke about it, I’ve been in two elections.”
How long can one act like the proverbial ostrich with your head in the sand? We’re finding out, folks.
"Approved riot"... don't be an asshole, B.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone shows you who they are, believe them.
ReplyDeletedon't be a seditious asshole
ReplyDeleteFixed it.
B, like I said you need to check your own stuff before you squawk.
ReplyDeleteYour seditious stuff is showing.
As to media... watch enough and you get to know whos doing a lot
of opinion and conspiracy talk vs real news. Hint one I can easily
verify and prove the other is well..... crap!
Eck!
SO...y'all can't come up with any words that wre "incitng". ZERO.
ReplyDeleteOur country has had enough. We will not take it any more and that’s what this is all about.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting about this insurrection (or riot as the republicans preferred term) is how many of them were armed with bats, rods, batons, sticks, zip ties, etc. ahead of the storming of the Capitol. Almost as if the actions were premeditated. Many were wearing camo clothing, or paramilitary costumes, some wore helmets.
ReplyDeleteCompare those scenes to the summer riots protesting the murders of black Americans. Those people were clad in civilian clothes, very few were seen in what could be described as 'military' garb.
Those folks in Washington were looking for trouble, willing to overthrow the institutions of our government all for the benefit of their cult leader. In other words, they are traitors and should be treated as such.
Dale
I don't know why I am responding, since you refuse to face reality, B. You'll refuse to believe news reports unless they're from Breitbart, Fox or OAN.
ReplyDeleteFrom Trump's rally on January 6, 2021:
“Republicans are constantly fighting like a boxer with his hands tied behind his back. It’s like a boxer. And we want to be so nice. We want to be so respectful of everybody, including bad people. AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO FIGHT MUCH HARDER. …
“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, BECAUSE YOU'LL NEVER TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY WITH WEAKNESS. YOU HAVE TO SHOW STRENGTH, AND YOU HAVE TO BE STRONG.”

So there's your proof.

"It was an "approved riot", aeh ... incited."
ReplyDeleteCop-killers *, are you advocating cop-killing?
S'OK in my book, now you've pissed off the cops.
You and your kind will be going away soon. [smiles]
Congratulations, B. You and yours have discredited conservatism for a very long time. To tens of millions of Americans, "conservative", if not "evangelical" will now be equated to "terrorist".
ReplyDeleteThat's your bed. I hope you enjoy the snooze.
Oh, B? Liz Cheney disagrees with you.
ReplyDeleteAnother Republican congressman disagrees with you, B.
ReplyDeleteAnd, again, WHAT WORDS DID HE USE TO 'INCITE" the "Insurrection" . One has to actually DO something to be guilty of the crime. Even though DTNWD took the time to try and find a quote, that hardly (unless one is totally illogical and unthinking) comes even close to "Inciting a riot or insurrection".
ReplyDeleteUnless you are going to claim it was code, like some of you claimed "Coded Racism" a while back.
I'm glad you folks can follow like sheep. Apparently you just say what others in your circle do, unthinkingly.
Using your logic, one could say that many comments here were cheering on the deaths of people in the riots last summer and "invciting violence" since you all supported those folks who were looting and burning to protest the killing of criminals who fought the police during an arrest.
Unless, of course you are just repeating what you are told unthinkingly, that is.
You remind me of the "MeeTOO" movemnt folks, who, once they heard an accusation, immediately condemned the person accused, unthinkingly, with no evidence or proof.
Is this the latest "2 minute hate"?
When you had the totality of the circumstances together, you get incitement. If you don’t think that will be proven, that is your right to think that.
ReplyDeleteBut it’s not looking good for your argument. You can call it what you want, but the fact remains that your side tried to overthrow the federal government. It is looking more and more likely that Trump will be convicted in an impeachment trial.
Your side lost in 1865, it is losing now.
And with that, I will claim the privilege of getting in the last word.
