More Chickens Coming Home to Roost

Republicans are worried that a corporate backlash stirred by the deadly Capitol insurrection could crimp a vital stream of campaign cash, complicating the party’s prospects of retaking the Senate in the next election.
...
Recriminations [after the coup attempt] were swift, with more than a dozen corporate giants — including AT&T, Nike, Comcast, Dow, Marriott, Walmart and Verizon — pledging to withhold donations to Republican lawmakers who voted to reject the outcome of the election in Arizona or Pennsylvania. One of those lawmakers, Florida Sen. Rick Scott, is the new chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, a post that makes him the public face of the Senate Republican fundraising efforts.

The big-bucks donors want stability, so that they can continue their programs to stomp down harder and harder on workers and poor folk. Letting the workers get the idea that they can rebel and stretch some necks means that they might get around to having the masters of the universe do the Tyburn Jig.

  1. Yes, some of our corporate masters stopped paying the Grifting Old Party, for a while. Others stopped political payoffs for both sides like a common Chuck Chuck Bobuck Chuck Todd. But, yea, trump's toast with the rich and religious since he Mission Accomplished with many new trog christopath judges and yuge tax cuts for God's chosen people, the rich. Thank Crom for the racist, neo-confederate, mouth breathing, cousin fucking American GOP voters ready to murder fellow Republicans if orange god emperor calls for it. That should split this rancid party of hate by splitting off the remaining 7.5% of sane Republican voters, allowing sane Democratic candidates slightly better odds against the omnipresent GOP money, gerrymandering, voter suppression, intimidation, propaganda, lies, and Russian state military and hacking support. For a short time.

  2. The money people are concerned ( their emotional range doesn't include primary colors)about how to maintain control as previously (50 years or so) methods start to show diminishing returns. I'm sure the fallback will be to figure out who's "trending" & co opt them with money. It's worked many times in the past. In 2016 I figured that if Hillary had won, we'd at least get competently managed end-state capitalism. Lacking that, we just have end-state capitalism. Its early stages are turbulent, so they're rightly concerned.
