Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Charles “Chuck” Yeager, the World War II fighter pilot ace and quintessential test pilot who showed he had the “right stuff” when in 1947 he became the first person to fly faster than sound, has died. He was 97.
A blog by a "sucker" and a "loser" who served her country in the Navy.
If you're one of the Covidiots who believe that COVID-19 is "just the flu",
that the 2020 election was stolen, or
especially if you supported the 1/6/21 insurrection,
leave now.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Got to meet the General once at the annual Oshkosh airshow. Working as a volunteer in the warbirds area got us a free sandwich and chips in the warbird mess tent, so my son and I sat down and a old guy in a Polo shirt and jeans asked "mind if Isit down" Not at all. I looked up and it was Chuck Yeager. I introduced myself and my teenage son. My son asked if he's been to many airshows " he chuckled and said been to a few in my time". Then everyone saw him and elbowed us out of the way. My brush with greatness.
ReplyDeleteAnd he was the inspiration for ah, every airline pilot (ah, all pilots for that matter) to give the ah, inflight announcement in a slow talking, West Virginian drawl with a few ‘ahs’ thrown between every sentence.
ReplyDeleteRIP General.
