Trump Alarms

Trump's forecast for Hurricane Sally's landfall is: "Calm seas, not much rain, little wind, no reason to panic."

A little automotive humor:

  1. Please note that Lucas part number 530433 is only correct for vehicles with the standard Lucas three position (dim, flicker and dead) light switch.

  2. All hail, Lucas, the Prince of Darkness! Contributing to the legendary British single digit MTBF sports car endurance.

  3. Don’t forget Alfa Romeo used Lucas electronics into the 60’s, British electronics in an Italian built sports car, what could go wrong?

  4. Why didn’t the British make TV sets?
They couldn’t make one that would leak oil.

  6. Anyone here old enough to remember Marvel Mystery Oil? Not too long my son put a Lucas Oil oil treatment product in a car that was smokin'. I said "son, I don't think that's such a good idea, I've seen stuff like that spin bearings." EYup, spun the bearings. (after he sold it, which is beside the point)

I've got a small-block, 350 inch four bolt in my one ton four-by, which I like to run a little higher octane in, if only to not see so much water (ethanol) run out the tailpipe. And, there's a Lucas Specialty Fuels outlet in town, where I have - just for the halibut - bought some 97 octane. No noticeable difference in fuel consumption or power, and just as much water runs out of the tailpipe. Ten miles to the gallon, whatever I'm doing: uphill, downhill, under load, runnin' empty, ten miles to the gallon.

However, if I run a 93 or 95 octane non-ethanol, not watered, fuel mix I can push that to twelve, fifteen miles to the gallon, with a noticeable improvement in poser, and no water runs out my tailpipe.

As much of a mystery as Marvel Oil.

  8. Ten Bears, had a ‘73 Mustang, with a 351 Cleveland, that had noisy lifters in 1985. Mechanic’s first solution was Marvel Mystery Oil...didn’t help, but didn’t hurt.

  9. Ten Bears, Lucas Oil has no relationship to Lucas Electric.

  10. Why do the British drink warm beer?

    Lucas makes refrigerators also.

  11. Darn, was too off-topic πŸ˜’

CP, I had a '65 Galaxy 500 XL w/the 351 Cleveland (two-door, w/vinyl roof and consel shift) that smoked like a battleship. Marvel Mystery Oil got it through a Jersey inspection.

  12. I was attending a GM Tech school electronics class, about 2002, and the teacher informed us "Electrons are smoke and when the smoke comes out it doesn't work anymore.". He also had one for fluorescent tube lights. They were "Dark Suckers" when they filled up, they turned dark and didn't work anymore."
We did also manage to learn some serious electronic theory, diagnosis, and repair though.

  13. My '70 Torino had a 351 Cleveland in it, but the only thing I ever put Marvel Mystery Oil in was my Honda Mini Trail when I was a little kid, and jealous of my friends with their two stroke race bikes.
Yes, motorcycles can make you a little crazy sometimes.

  14. See how much happier and even-tempered everyone is discussing things mechanical instead of the latest outrage and idiocy of Mr. Orange Sh*&gibbon?

  16. My dad had a 351 Windsor in his pickup. '74, if I remember correctly. Kind of a 12 miles to the gallon situation, but the truck was nice.
