What the Fucking Fuck Is Wrong With People; Ep. 2

The pastor of the Life Tabernacle Church near Baton Rouge held services on Sunday in defiance of a stay-at-home order issued by Louisiana because of the coronavirus pandemic, telling worshippers they had “nothing to fear but fear itself.”
One of the neighbors of the church nailed it:
[A] neighbor of the church called it “utterly ridiculous” to hold services during a pandemic.

“They’re just afraid there’s not going to be enough money in the collection plate,” Bobbye McInnis told reporters.
That's it.

Meanwhile, back at Shambolic Central, the Surgeon General had this to say:
In Washington, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams offered a stark warning about the surge of coronavirus deaths the nation is facing.

“This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment,” he told “Fox News Sunday.
That analogy ranges from inaccurate to just plain wrong. Both Pearly Harbor and 9/11 came as utter surprises to the nation. There was no surprise about this pandemic. The warnings were plain as day. But we have the misfortune to have a president who has never come to grips with reality, who believes that he can bend the world to his will by tweets and insults.

Pandemics are immune to insults and nasty tweets. Trump engaged in his usual magical thinking, yelping about hoaxes and burying his head in the sand. I don't think that I need to rehash the fact that Trump dismantled the pandemic planning staffs that were put in place by Presidents George W. Bush and Obama. We don't need a review of the fact that many of the senior posts in the Federal agencies are either filled by acting figureheads or are vacant.

Trump did his best to turn the Executive branch into a batch of toadies chosen for loyalty over competence. When we needed the Federal government to be effective, hasn't been because of Trump and his toadies in the Party of Stupid.

We may never really know how many people's lives could have been saved if Trump hadn't wasted two months time doing nothing. But if you lost a friend or a loved one, or more than one in this pandemic, Trump bears part of the blame for their deaths.

  1. Well, about 9/11, there was this, and it was famously ignored:

"OK, you've covered your ass" if I remember correctly. But even that displays a level of understanding about the workings of the subject at hand that I find entirely lacking in Fergus.

Would that he appoint someone to be responsible for the management of the pandemic who he could later throw under the bus and blame all the failure on. He might weasel out of some of the accountability that way, but we would get a sapient vertebrate running the response while folks are still dying in their thousands.

The above statement, which you made in your post, is inaccurate. Quite a few senior posts have been filled by. Trump with people who are vacant.

    Yours vacantly,
