Berlin is trying to stop Washington from persuading a German company seeking a coronavirus vaccine to move its research to the United States, prompting German politicians to insist no country should have a monopoly on any future vaccine. Is there anyone in the White House with half of a functioning neuron who could foresee how this story would land? Did they really think that they could get away with developing and hoarding a vaccine?
German government sources told Reuters on Sunday that the U.S. administration was looking into how it could gain access to a potential vaccine being developed by a German firm, CureVac.

Welt am Sonntag quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists’ work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, “but only for the United States.”
If Trump asks the rest of the world for help on any future crisis, it will be fully understandable if the rest of the world tells him to fuck off.

ReplyDeleteHerr Filthie, I have cautioned you before that your misogyny is not welcome. See Rule 2.I.
ReplyDeleteRed card.
Worst thing I see here is the exclusivity of this vaccine. If Donny gets his grubbies on it, we all know it will be primarily for him and his buddies, more than public use.
ReplyDeleteHe'll probably fix the price to be like Insulin as well.
Isn't price gouging illegal in a state of emergency? Ah, but who will charge him, certainly not Barr.

Wouldn't he have had a better chance at the US having the first vaccine if he hadn't run the scientists who work on such things out of the government?
ReplyDeleteThe same holds true for developing drugs to treat it.
Dr. David Ho is being funded by a very wealthy Chinese man to research possible antiviral drugs, and he noted that there is already a body of work from HIV and hepatitis C researchers on protease and polymerase that those scientists Fergus ran out of the USDA could have been working on for two months now.
