Never Forget: This Was What Trump Was Saying Eighteen Days Ago

President Donald Trump accused Democrats of “politicizing” the deadly coronavirus during a campaign rally here on Friday, claiming that the outbreak is “their new hoax” as he continued to downplay the risk in the U.S.

“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” Trump said. “They have no clue, they can't even count their votes in Iowa.”

“This is their new hoax,” Trump continued, adding that attacking the White House’s response to the coronavirus had become the Democratic Party’s “single talking point.”
...
“So far we have lost nobody to coronavirus," Trump said, suggesting the growing global panic was due to the press being in a "hysteria mode."
And now, he thinks that he's a wartime president because of the pandemic.

Oh, Fox News and the rest of the Right Wing Noise Machine will try to pretend that this never happened, that Trump never said that the coronavirus was a hoax and that this was no big deal.

But he did. There should be no wonder why a significant majority of Americans don't believe what Trump says.

I won't forget. Neither should you. When there was some time to plan and prepare, Trump was lying and poo-pooing the threat posted by the coronavirus. He still has Pence up there, helping to put a sheen on Trump's stinking pile of lies.

Between that stupid shit and his statement that he doesn't take responsibility for anything, the attack ads almost write themselves.

  1. And now the Trump administration is going fully Orwellian by denying that Trump ever did anything but take the pandemic seriously. To quote George Conway’s tweet:

“He accepted everything. The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

I find myself hoping that a journalist will decide to burn his or her career and, during a televised press conference, blatantly call Trump out for his lies and hypocrisy. But I don’t think it’ll happen.

  2. He cannot tell the truth even if it was good for him.

If you have watched the last few days of pressers indeed a nasty woman
made is a point of asking those questions and more... hence calling her
a nasty women. One got their audio cut off. Its not rare, or unusual
for the Impotus to name call people that ask the hard questions or
call his lies. His response is more lies.

Then there are the Pinocchio awards, fact checkers that write it up.
He needs to sey simple things like someone get it done step back and
shut it. The orange whirl cannot do that, it doesn't look good,
    promote his brand.

  3. But, but, but,...Glen Filtyie assured me it was all a liberal hoax! Surely, such a towering intellect could not be mistaken!

  4. The hoax to which Trump refers is Democrats criticizing his Administration's response.

    From the linked article:
"My administration has taken the most aggressive acts in history to prevent the spread in the United States," Trump said, touting his decision to ban foreign nationals recently in China from entering the U.S.
(that China travel ban was at the end of January)

Oh, and China on the travel ban:
A U.S. ban on foreign nationals traveling into the country if they have visited China in the last two weeks is "neither based on facts, nor helpful," Chinese officials said Saturday. (Feb 1)

  5. Italy closed its border to foreign nationals who had recently been in China before the US. How did that work out?

Other than that, his rhetoric has been, at the very least, contradictory to that of health experts, even those in his own administration.

Most constructive measures that he's taken were pushed or suggested by others, and he only did them grudgingly.

  6. This is a good example of why Driftglass calls memory the liberal superpower.

  7. Italy also had a shitload of Chinese working for the CPC's Belt and Road Initiative. Plenty were probably in-country before Italy closed anything.

  8. I'm not suggesting that Italy handled this situation ideally.

I'm saying that criticism of the Trump administration's handling of it is merited.
