As I explained earlier, Trump gutted Federal pandemic planning, leaving this country woefully unprepared to combat a pandemic. As we're seeing now, the Trump administration's response varies between ad hoc and wishful.
So let us call the disease by a more fitting term:
The Trump Flu.
A blog by a "sucker" and a "loser" who served her country in the Navy.
If you're one of the Covidiots who believe that COVID-19 is "just the flu",
that the 2020 election was stolen, or
especially if you supported the 1/6/21 insurrection,

A reasonable thought, but I think "Trump flu" should be reserved for a drug resistant venereal disease.
ReplyDeleteIn a meeting on the spread of the virus in Geneva today, the team they finally got into Wuhan reported back that we should definitely do here what China is doing there to contain the spread.

Can you imagine military checkpoints on all major highways testing people's temperature and pulling them out of their vehicles on the spot and throwing them into quarantine if they have a fever?

FWIW this virus seems to be maybe 2-3x more deadly than the flu we've all lived with and don't think much about:

The death rate for COVID-19 appears to be higher than that of the flu.
In the study published Feb. 18 in the China CDC Weekly, researchers found a death rate from COVID-19 to be around 2.3% in mainland China. That's much higher than the death rate linked to flu, which is typically around 0.1% in the U.S., according to The New York Times.
Even so, the death rate for COVID-19 varied by location and an individual’s age, among other factors. For instance, in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak, the death rate reached 2.9%; in other provinces of China, that rate was just 0.4%. In addition, older adults have been hit the hardest. The death rate soars to 14.8% in those 80 and older; among those ages 70 to 79, the COVID-19 death rate in China seems to be about 8%; it’s 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69; 1.3% for 50 to 59; 0.4% for the age group 40 to 49; and just 0.2% for people ages 10 to 39. Nobody 9 and under has died of this coronavirus to date.

Some time back (maybe during SARS) I bought a case (40 ct) of 3M 8511 masks. You want to get an N95 respirator....meaning that it filters 95% of particulates. Also a box of Harbor Freight gloves. The virus won't live more than a day on surfaces so you can just reuse them after that. And hand sanitizer.
The tricky part is taking them off and not contaminating yourself....by like using your key to open the door with gloves on, taking the gloves off and then grabbing the fob. I figure the hand sanitizer helps with that.
This isn't about perfection, just about reducing risk
