Boeing, Boeing

This is the transcript of a speech by Boeing's general counsel at a Boeing "leadership meeting" in 2006.

Read it and ask yourself: "Did they listen to this guy?" Because the shit that keeps coming out on the 737 Max would seem to indicate that the answer is "naw, not really."

I mentioned in a comment that some Boeing insiders were saying that it was the corrupting culture of McDonnell-Douglas that lies at the root of a lot of Boeing's problems in this century. They're now saying it openly.

  1. An exact analog to Bell Atlantic's transition to Verizon by acquiring GTE. I was a Bell Atlantic tech in 2000 and saw exactly this; a formerly skilled motivated and self policing work force brought to apathy or active hostility by the GTE corporate culture. It was a continuous wonder among the worker bees that our good will and trust was considered to be of little value compared to the brand it was built on. My 2 cents is MBAs should get a forehead tattoo of a sphincter as a condition of graduation. Sorry for the long post.

  2. Q. Why do MBA’s wear ties?

    A. To keep the foreskin down.

  3. This is very distressing, because my old rule of "Never fly Airbus because their software repeatedly kills people" now is too narrowly focused.
