Thirty Years On

On this day in 1989, Chinese troops massacred pro-democracy student demonstrators at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

A precise death toll has never been made public. It likely was well north of a thousand.

China has tried to stuff the Massacre down the memory hole, but they haven't wholly succeeded.

Donald Trump has sought to curry favor with China over this, of course. He called the demonstrations a "riot" and approved of the PLA shooting kids. His comments were pretty much in keeping with his philosophy that freedom is bad and authoritarianism is good.

(Accidentally posted yesterday. Deleted and sorry about that.)
