50 years ago, queer folk got tired of being pushed around by the cops and did something about it. Ten years ago, cops in Texas marked the anniversary by raiding a gay bar for bullshit reasons.
It wasn't the first such riot against police oppression. However, it has come to be marked as the start of the modern gay rights movement.
There's still a lot of hatred and bigotry which, nowadays, is cloaked in religious justification.
