NY Times's Geopolitical Cowardice

In this article about Hungary's interference in Macedonian politics, the New York Times included a map that had a curious omission:


They didn't label one chunk of land, as indicated by the red arrow.

That is Kosovo.

    Sorry, CM. I am not clear on what the significance of not listing Kosovo is. Could you enlighten my ignorance?

    RJ, the Serbs don't recognize the existence of Kosovo as anything other than a Serbian province. Based on some godforsaken pitched battle that the Serbs lost 630 or so years ago, Serbs regard Kosovo as holy territory and theirs by divine right. Or some such bullshit.

    For the Times, labeling Kosovo as such would probably cause some heartburn with the Serbs. They may care about such things.
