The Fix is Shaping Up For the Khashoggi Murder

President* Donald Trump is suggesting that “rogue killers” may be responsible for whatever happened to missing Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump told reporters as he departed the White House en route to Florida Monday that he spoke by phone with Saudi Arabia’s King and that “The King firmly denied any knowledge” of the disappearance.

Trump says he doesn’t “want to get” into King Salman’s mind, but says, “it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers.”
Anyone who would buy that story is either a complete chucklehead or has been bought and paid for. Maybe both.

The idea that a "team of rouge killers", being fifteen Saudi officials who went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, tortured, killed and dismembered Khashoggi, and then flew out with his remains is laughable. Especially when one considers that Saudi Arabia is an absolute and despotic monarchy. I doubt very much that this was a "turbulent priest" killing.

Trump, though, is desperate to find a way out of this that doesn't involve the Saudis retaliating against his business interests, so he is grasping at feeble reeds.

  1. Funny, exactly my thoughts when I saw the "rogue killers" line. The way Donnie reacts to this is likely to really bite us in the ass down the line, especially as he is now odds on favorite to be reelected.

  2. They have audio recordings of it from his Apple watch. But I guess those have been "fudged" like the Holt interview and are thus fake news.

  3. The Turks would be doing the world a favor if they'd release the Apple Watch recording. Let the whole world hear it — with subtitles for those of us who do not speak Arabic. Let the Saudis and Trump then go into the "fake recording" bit.

How many times can they get away with the same ridiculous excuse?

  4. Okay, the King doesn't know.
    Now ask Salman.

  5. I wonder just how much the “15 individuals” (tourists!?) suddenly started worrying once they heard the “rogue killers” theme? In such an open and law abiding country as Saudi Arabia, you gotta think the first thing that they did when that line was uttered was check behind them make themselves scarce.

  6. How heavy handed are they? They disappeared him in broad daylight from their embassy!
Not that it is unheard of in this age, but to show such disdain for normalcy?
Today I even read "it was an accident"???
Our tRump has loosed the bonds of many such devils.
The price is still to be paid by the civilised world.
