It Doesn't Matter How Much CO2 is in Martian Soil
(H/T)
I submit that it doesn't fucking matter.
Mars doesn't have a magnetic field. The atmosphere would be stripped away by solar wind. In the meantime, the lack of a magnetic shield would mean that living aboveground on Mars would be inviting a probable death from cancer.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Simple matter of a field generator at Mar's L1 Lagrange point. There is always a way, maybe out of reach of our tech right now.

Elon's gotta keep popping far-out (but not tooooo far out) stuff to keep the rubes tickled up and investors at bay while he potters about running his money-makers any damned way he sees fit... such fun!! Buck Roger and Gyro Gearless allatonce :-)
ReplyDeleteThe theory that the Earth's magnetic field helps us retain our atmosphere has become somewhat controversial lately. There's reason to think that we lose about as much atmosphere to space as Mars or Venus.

But yeah, you'd be catching all those Cosmic Rays yourself on Mars. Ionizing radiation is not healthy for children and other living things.
In a few years he could try his hand at terraforming the uninhabitable planet formerly known as "Earth."
