There were over two decades' worth of complaints against USC gynecologist George Tyndall who was nicknamed "The Butcher". But USC did nothing, other than suspend him after 25 years of him allegedly abusing women during examinations. Dr. Creepo did things such as doing full-body examinations, purportedly to look for skin cancer.[1]
It wasn't until the LA Times got interested that USC did anything substantive. But they still gave him money to go away. USC didn't make a report to the state medical board, let alone to the cops.
This shit happens over and over. It shouldn't take reporters looking into things for organizations to act against known abusers. But it does.
You can bet your paycheck that there are USC administrators who are blaming the Times for this scandal, instead of taking a good, hard look into the mirror that the story is holding up to them.
Because that's what bureaucrats do.
Every USC administrator who knew or should have known what was going on ought to be held to account for covering it up, or negligence. But since that's not going to happen, I wish on USC and its administrators a plague of civil litigation.

I've had both and for that they usually have a nurse in the office as well.
ReplyDeleteIf the doc is doing everything in a professional way one the work area is
exposed as needed then covered. For a full body cancer check I'd expect
large areas to remain covered and only the required inspection area is
exposed. there is no need for other than that.

I am 71 and I've never had a gynecological examination done, whether the doctor was male or female, without a nurse in attendance. In fact, I didn't know that such ever happened.

Whoa! I just read a long news article about Tyndall. He was chaperoned during the examinations and nurses did voice objections to his practices. The entire thing is a stinking mess!

ReplyDeleteAt least in the U.S. there’s a fair chance of getting a female doctor, unlike Japan. Now an average of 50.7% of the med school entry class is female, but the “top” specialties are still disproportionally male.

Eck -- From the male side, at my age, I'm past being concerned with that; when I walk into the doctor's office, regardless of the doc's gender, I hang my coat and my dignity on the same hook. Not long ago I had a heart operation of the kind where they drill a hole in your crotch to get to it;I was amused to note that the nurse went to the trouble to put a warm towelette atop Little Deadstick.
