I never understood this event. It isn't a race (which I understand), but if you're NOT racing, why not stop and smell the roses along the way. The transatlantic rallies (they are also not races) are almost ocean-going parties. From the Canary Islands to the Leeward Islands. (When they show up, a place can become mighty crowded. The east-to-west Atlantic Rally for Cruisers can has had as many as 2000 boats.)
