Promoting War Criminals
Other than being a woman, Haspel is notable because she oversaw the use of torture and then helped cover it up by overseeing the destruction of evidence.
So this is where the United States is today: People who should be doing time for war crimes are being rewarded and promoted. Chuckie Taylor, Prisoner 76556-004, is probably laughing at the irony.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Crime seems to be a common thread running through most, if not all, Trump appointees.
ReplyDeleteJerry: you can say that with a straight face, and ignore the Clinton folks?
ReplyDeleteB, can you stay on the subject? What crimes are you talking about with the Clintons?
ReplyDeleteDA, it’s all the Clinton War Criminals...right B.? Now, where’s that list...I can’t find it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to re-read the post. I don’t recall anything being said about Clinton.
ReplyDelete"Haspel is notable because she oversaw the use of torture and then helped cover it up by overseeing the destruction of evidence."
ReplyDeleteDid she? Which parts of that were in the retracted story? I have 0 articles left on NYTimes right now.
NJT, the Washington Post story should give you what you need. Try Gina Haspel next Google, and you’ll find the Pro Publica retraction on overseeing the Thai prison (they messed that up) and a Washington Post piece by a gentleman who went to prison for shining light on what the CIA was doing. The Post piece has plenty of details you can verify in a number of places, most of the Government record.
ReplyDeleteDuring her Senate confirmation, Ms. Haspel will be forced to answer unsettling questions about waterboarding and her interactions with detainees. She will probably have to answer whether she would agree to reinstate waterboarding as the president has suggested and whether she believes that torture is an effective way to extract information from terrorism suspects.
ReplyDelete“I don’t envy her trying to get through confirmation,” said Robert Eatinger, the former top lawyer in the C.I.A.’s Counterterrorism Center. “It’s going to be the first chance for senators to have someone intimately involved in the program in front of them to answer questions. I think they’ll take full advantage of that opportunity.”
“Ms. Haspel was also embroiled in another dark episode in the C.I.A.’s interrogation program.
In 2005, Jose Rodriguez, then the head of the agency’s clandestine service, ordered the destruction of videotapes of the waterboarding sessions. Ms. Haspel, serving as Mr. Rodriguez’s chief of staff, was a strong advocate for getting rid of the tapes, former C.I.A. officers said.“

America has a long history of promoting its war criminals.
