leave now.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
I remember that day and incident vividly.
ReplyDeleteBlew up at liftoff? Not exactly. Combustion gas coming out of the leaky O-ring seal impinged on a structural member and went through it like a cutting torch. When the vehicle lost its rigidity, oscillations in pitch and yaw overpowered the guidance system until it got sideways and broke up under aerodynamic forces at 48,000 feet.

ReplyDeleteDeadstick: That's kind of close to quibbling. The damned thing blew up 73 seconds into the flight. Whether it went "boom" on the pad or "boom" at 60,000' or whether or not it went "boom" after it started breaking up or whether or not it would have survived without the severe wind shear earlier in the flight is of little matter.
