Off the Reservation; K-Frame Edition
That's a Ruger Security Six. If you look closely at the barrel, you'll see that the "RFTM Before Using This Gun, Moron" rollmark is not there. This is a late-`70s gun, produced before Ruger began so marking their guns.
All of the Security Sixes that I've seen recently all had the legalese rollmark and, on a 4" barrel, it is fucking hideous. This one didn't, and so.....
It shoots OK. This is at ten yards:

Great score on the Security Six, I just missed out on a Speed Six recently so good for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about the Ruger designs that is just 'ugly'? I too have a love of Smiths and Colts, but the Ruger designs just seem clunky and without the grace of a S&W.

Nice find!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Very nice.
ReplyDeletew3ski,
ReplyDeleteMaybe so. The lines of a Security Six aren't as fine as a Smith & Wesson.
But what you get is a gun that is the same weight as a Model 15, will shoot full-charge magnums without damage and can be field-stripped to the point that everything can be cleaned and lubed.
Timing, of course, is everything. If Ruger had brought the gun out ten years earlier, they might have owned the cop market for the last part of the police revolver era.
