Now he's denying that.
He suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic, and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently. (In the hours after it was revealed in October 2016, Mr. Trump acknowledged that the voice was his, and he apologized.)Trump is gone past lying to his family, his business associates (I doubt if he has any real friends), his party and the nation.
Now he's lying to himself. If reality isn't to his liking, he constructs an alternative reality in his head and goes there.
It should be clear, by now, that Trump's lawyers were saying that Mueller's investigation would be over by Thanksgiving as a fib to control an unruly client. It's sort of like telling a five-year-old, when they're badgering you about "when will we get there", that "we'll be there in ten minutes", when you're an hour away. Trump would have flipped out if they had told him that Mueller's not winding things down, but that he's still building up steam.
It's going to be a race between impeachment, Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, and Trump blowing his fuses and collapsing.
It's a safe bet that most of the GOP establishment is praying for Trump to blow his fuses before he does more damage to his party than he already has.
Let me try a theory on you: Trump knows he's lying. He also knows that most Americans have the recall ability and attention span of a flea. They won't, or can't, remember what he said a year ago. Or even fifteen minutes ago. So he can deny what he just told everybody and half the world will believe him.
ReplyDeleteYours crankily,
The New YOrk Crank
He's a really bad liar, too. Which means he was never cut out for politics.

Suprise...suprise... suprise!
ReplyDeleteLairs ...lie!
Willful ignorance is not BLISSful ... just plain stupid!
AND Dotard 45 KNOWS that the "stupid" is strong in his base!
DintheBeast is correct.
ReplyDeleteI understand the concept of a pathological liar but I have to admit I haven't met one. Sure there was a kid in High School that told lies with regularity but I think he was just trying to impress the rest of us? Perhaps he was pathological too?
ReplyDeleteTo have a resident though, representing our Country in public, that will lie about the smallest details, with obvious proof to his lies available, that is just too much.
Damn his Mother and Father for letting this 'turd' upon the world stage, and Damn the voters that put this asswipe in the chair of our President.
This isn't even funny anymore, it's pathetic.

What I don't understand is how people can believe that "the world was laughing at us" due to Obama's actions and yet strenuously deny that the same is happening as a result of statements like this one.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the world has access to all the same information that we do (well, other than those behind state-run firewalls). Much of the news is translated and even when it's not, chances are someone knows one of the estimated 1.5 billion English-speakers who will provide the general gist. Easily verifiable lies like this one, the inauguration crowd, etc. etc. do not go unnoticed and the result is often laughter.
Likewise, Trump may have some serious deal-making skills. I haven't seen clear evidence of that yet but his background suggests that they may exist. However, most foreign leaders aren't idiots and it takes a certain degree of stupidity to trust a man whose word is so clearly flexible. Want to know why his "great deals" haven't come to fruition? This is a big part of it.
Blame the Republican Party and the DNC for Trump.
ReplyDeleteThey gave us shit for choices for an RNC candidate, then the DNC twisted things to leave us with either Trump or Hillary. (Yes, I know it was SUPPOSED to be Hillary that the People chose, but enough folks couldn't stomach her that we got Trump). Be other choices (on both sides) were just about as bad.....
And it isn't YOUR president's chair, it is the country's (and the People's) chair, and they chose Trump for it because he was the lesser of the weasels.
So there is a fair chance of getting President Pence.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about that.
B: Only the country didn't choose him, he lost the country by almost three million votes, and the DNC had far less to do with his victory than Kobach's Crosscheck, which probably purged more "Jose Gonzalez's" off of the rolls for the high crime of having a similar name (and not always the same middle name) as a voter in another state than he won by in multiple states.
ReplyDeleteYou know who we have to thank for having Donald Trump as our current president?
Republican primary voters. They had seventeen choices, and Trump got more Republican primary votes than any Republican in history.

B, if the RNC had a superdelegate system, maybe we wouldn't have Trump. We might have Cruz, which would mean that we'd have a really bright vindictive troll instead of a lying vindictive troll.
ReplyDeleteDoug, arguing who won the popular vote is a useless argument. That's not the system we have. Now, GOP's efforts at voter suppression is a good argument. They're no different from the old "poll tax" days.
Comrade: I completely agree. I was replying to:
ReplyDelete"And it isn't YOUR president's chair, it is the country's (and the People's) chair, and they chose Trump for it because he was the lesser of the weasels."
"They" did not, in fact, choose Trump, by almost three million votes, and I wanted to point that out because I hear a lot of posturing as if there were some kind of majority who support him, or ever did, when there's just not.
-Doug in Oakland
Well, if we subtract California (where we had a choice in the general election, not the primary, between a Democrat or the other Democrat for Senator), the rest of the country gave more votes to Trump.
ReplyDeleteSorry if your predictions are this bad, I'd advice you stay away from poker tables and race tracks.
ReplyDeleteI predict that Obama will become a Christian before Trump is impeached. Which is about as likely as Hildabeast entering a nunnery.
Or, if either of the parties had not discouraged decent, non legacy/dynasty candidates, we wouldn't have Trump.
ReplyDeleteMy point was that Trump was marginally less offensive to the country, as a whole, than Hillary. And to the RNC voters, he was less offensive than Bush, or Cruz, or Rubio or any of the others.
Neither party gave us, the voters, a decent set of choices, leaving us with Trump vs Hillary. Hillary was (and is) corrupt, and every one including you, knew it. Most only voted for her because she was the DNC candidate and she wasn't Trump. The other folks voted for Trump 'cause he wasn't Hillary.
Anon 8:23: Repeat of foul slur that Obama is not Christian. Yellow card.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see voter fraud, Miss Misfit, feel free to come visit me next election. I can take you to Chicago (or even Indiana DNC strongholds and show you BLATANT fraud and suppression. Come for the primaries in Lake County, Indiana, or the South Side of Chicago (same political machine). Not saying it is all one sided, but there is enough shit to sling on both sides.
ReplyDeleteAnd Anon8:23 may (I say,"May") not be wrong. But your blog, your rules.
B., by your standards, then saying Trump is a Satanist is a “may not be wrong”, or that Roy Moore buggers mosquitos.
ReplyDeleteB, it may not be wrong to say that Trump wants to bang his daughter.
ReplyDeleteWhich, come to think of it, probably explains why Trump is backing an accused pedophile.
There's a bit more evidence that Barry may have been raised (and maybe is) a muslim than your statements.
ReplyDeleteAgain, "May". I cannot prove, nor can I disprove the statement. And, really, it doesn't matter, does it? He ran as a Christian, and was elected as one. He was President of the USA, and (as much as any president does) he led the country according to the laws of the USA (Executive orders aside, maybe, but that is water under the bridge). His religion never really entered the picture. Much like the Birth Certificate controversy, it really no longer matters what his religion is/was. His reign is ended, and if it mattered at all, it no longer does.
