A Brooklyn federal judge says locked up Martin Shkreli can't have access to his $5 million bail money.Shkreli had been acting in some really douchey ways before the judge got tired of his shit and tossed him in jail. He is also in tax trouble.
After the Pharma Bro was tossed in Brooklyn federal jail last month over his offering his social media followers a $5,000 reward for a strand of Hillary Clinton's hair, Shkreli's lawyers asked Judge Kiyo Matsumoto to release the hefty sum that was once collateral to guarantee Shkreli always made it to court.

She noted federal laws say courts can't release bond money between a verdict and a sentence except when it's shown any fine or penalty can't be imposed or the defendant "would suffer an undue hardship."
The judge said she hadn't decided yet if she'd hit the 34-year-old with any fines — but Shkreli didn't prove he couldn't get hit with fees and penalties.
And he's an asshole, which has driven a lot of his problems. I'd be betting that he's going to draw some time.
Just makes me wonder what he might know. You know he's not the type to do well in jail, so does he have any knowledge that might be of interest to tax authorities, the AG in NY or the Feds? Just thinking once a slimeball, always a slimeball...if I had moved in his circles and had anything to cover-up, I might be nervous. Of course, the ultimate test of that is if he gets mysteriously shanked.

CP88, I don't think that Shkreli is that highly-placed in the oligarchy. He's a run-of-the-mill rich scumball.
ReplyDeleteNangleator, he could try, but damn, I'll bet that there could be an obstruction of justice statute or something that would apply. But I don't do criminal defense law.
