I'm Shocked, Shocked That Trump is Restarting the "Tanks for Cops" Program

The Trump administration Monday lifted a controversial ban on the transfer of some surplus military equipment to police departments whose battlefield-style response to rioting in a St. Louis suburb three years ago prompted a halt to the program.

The new plan takes effect immediately and fully rolls back an Obama administration executive order that blocked armored vehicles, large-caliber weapons, ammunition and other heavy equipment from being re-purposed from foreign battlefields to America's streets.
What else would one expect from an authoritarian-wannabee administration with dreams of instituting a dictatorship?

Maybe they'll pose Trump in the driver's seat of a MRAP, with him leaning forward and yelling.

  1. Of course, you left out that Barry started the program before he stopped it.

But I do dislike the cops wasting their money on this "Loaned" equipment....they have no need for it to police citizens and the upkeep on that equipment is very high in cost.

  2. I should clarify: Barry EXPANDED the program, which has existed in one form or another (and with not so big equipment and with more restrictions) since the early 80's.

  3. There you go again...

Post-WW2 some surplus materials were transferred to police and states.

National Defense Authorization Act of 1990 (see the portion later known as the "1208 Program") was passed under, and signed by, Reagan. The war on drugs was the focus. This began the serious transfer of military materials to police.

The 1033 Program (the current program) was a modification in 1997, passed by a Republican led Senate and House, which expanded the giveaways to ALL police departments and removed the focus on drugs. (Yep, Bill Clinton, the most Republican recent Democrat President)

Do tell, please, how President Obama magically "expanded" this program begun by Reagan and expanded by a Republican Congress. And, remember that the 112th Congress, with a Republican House mandating that surplus military equipment from the drawdown of military forces (required by Bush's failure to gains a statues of forces agreement) be routed into the 1033 program, was in place for this "Obama Expansion". Do the echos hurt?

  4. and 1033 acquisitions DOUBLED 2012. again doubled 2013, and again in 2014. Then, post Ferguson, Barry greatly curtailed it.

    Go ahead, blame Bush.

  8. TTB, no, he's not a troll.

Saying "you don't know what you're talking about" without backing it up isn't kosher.

  9. If Obama did it, it doesn't mean Trump was right in following in his footsteps, B. Deal with what is, not what was.

  10. Dark Avenger: Reread for comprehension. I don't think it is a good idea. Not at all. "They have no need for it to police".

  11. You're griping about Obama when he has no control over the situation now. Sorry if you didn't notice that before.
