COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Aviation finally got with the times and tried acupuncture?
ReplyDeleteHow did someone do that?
ReplyDeleteLeo, good question. Big CG shift after removing the engines, maybe?
ReplyDeleteThe betting seems to be that the airplane was in the process of having parts removed for long-term storage. If that was the case, it was likely scrapped out.
Fell off the jackstand, who knows why...
ReplyDelete"Hey, Boss, a funny thing happened last might in Hangar Four."
ReplyDeleteI bet the sound that made was epic.
ReplyDelete"You'll just feel a little pressure..."
ReplyDeleteWhen you jack an aircraft for gear swings the manual will give you a minimum clearance under the wheels. The gear moves in an arc around the trunnion so as the gear retracts the outside tire at first descends before it starts to rise into the well.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't jacked it high enough as the gear retracts the outside tire will contact the hangar floor, lift the wing off the jack and move the airplane enough so that when the wing comes down the jack will not be under the jacking point. The jack will then punch a hole through the wing usually damaging the rear spar. The next thing that happens is the A&P in charge packs his toolbox, puts it in his truck and starts looking for a new job. I always make a point of measuring the clearance and adding an extra inch or two when doing gear swings.

and start at the 3m15 mark. Watch the left outboard wheel as the gear swings.
