The public has not laid eyes on the president since his return from Europe Saturday. But in private, Trump has raged against the latest Russia development, with most of his ire directed at the media, not his son, according to people who have spoken to him in recent days. When some garden-variety crook gets arrested for mugging an old lady or robbing a bodega, you can almost always see something along the lines of the kid's mom "why are you hassling my son? he's a good boy!" And then you'll see conservative writing posts that mock the mom for speaking out for her criminal kid.
Well, look what we have here: Rich white kid does something blatantly criminal and there's the dad, blaming the reporters for covering the kid's criminality and fuming about the negative
Where are the Republicans on this, other than closing their eyes, putting their fingers in their ears and humming loudly? As Stephen Colbert put it, what Reince Priebus called a "nothing-burger" a few days ago is now"an all-you-can-prosecute buffet". The then-head of the Trump campaign, Trump's son and his son-in-law took a meeting premised on the idea that they would receive damaging intel on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government. That is no longer an allegation, Gentle Readers, that is a proven fact, admitted by Donald Trump, Jr.
Where are the Republicans? Switch the names "Donald Trump, Jr." and "Chelsea Clinton" and ask if they'd be so quiescent.
Meanwhile...
President* Donald Trump's pick to lead the FBI faces a confirmation hearing Wednesday that will undoubtedly focus on the political tumult surrounding his nomination, with both Democrats and Republicans seeking assurances of his independence from the White House.Right. Guy nominated by an administration that is being investigated for collusion with a foreign power and who was Chris Christie's go-to guy when he got into trouble, yeah, there needs to be some hard questioning and some deep digging.
At this point, anyone nominated by Презитдерт Трамп should be regarded with a gimlet eye and scrutinized harshly. Trump wants people who are loyal to him. We need an FBI Director who is loyal to the law, the Constitution and the nation, not to the short-fingered vulgarian who appointed him.
You really think this is treason?
ReplyDeleteSo I guess it turns out that there were actually good reasons for the rules (written and unwritten) of modern political campaigns, and consequences to believing yourself to be too smart for them to apply to you and just tossing them out the window.
ReplyDeleteI was saying similar things during the campaign.
Now I'm stuck saying them about the presidency itself.

I reread Comrade's post. I see no allegation of treason, what I see is an allegation of collusion. Treason is specifically related to working with a country we are at war with, thus not applicable.
ReplyDeleteViolation of election laws is a given, since Donnie Jr. admitted this mess. I find it interesting that ignorance of the law is no excuse is commonly used by the right...until now, when inexperience is an excuse.
So what did he do that was illegal? And where is the Treason?
ReplyDeleteNot saying it was right, but really, on what basis is there anything illegal or treasonous?
Or is this must more TDS faux outrage? More bullshit memes from the DNC fed to the Media who repeats whatever they are told?
B., did you read what I said, there is not treason...there is a clear violation of several election laws. There is also an admission of a meeting with a Russian, promising Hillary dirt, just before Donnie makes a speech promising Hillary dirt...despite Donnie Jr. saying Donnie didn't know...pass the popcorn indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt's illegal for a campaign or its people to solicit or accept donations of anything of value from a foreign national. Oppo research is a thing of value.
ReplyDeleteWe've already crossed into "they broke the law". Where Kushner and his ilk didn't disclose their contacts with Russians, including this meeting, we're into lies of omission for their security clearances. You may think these offenses don't matter, but I'll bet that the FBI and the Special Counsel don't take that view.
I ask you directly, B, if the political parties were reversed, would you be calling for Clinton's head on a pike?
(I'm pretty sure that I know the answer.)
If they had indicted Hillary for mishandling of classified data (a much bigger offense) and blatant disregard of classified data handling rules (see also:Server) then I might consider your argument.. ..Except that you are misreading the law...or reading too much DNC propaganda that is merely wishes..... This was not a "item of value". At best it is immoral. Like WHitewater and other instances where she made big money in ways that LOOKED suspicious.
ReplyDeleteThe thing you cannot seem to understand is that you cannot be rational about Trump. You cannot seem to understand that you are DESPERATE to find something to damage him, yet you wouldn't use that same item of info for anyone else not associated with Donnie. I can accept that you hate him, but you reek of desperation. And because of this desperation, your judgement is poor. You find fault with him or anyone associated with him that you would excuse in a Democrat.
I realize that I am biased against anything associated with the DNC. You don't seem to realize that you lack rationality about Trump.
There may be something there to find..., I dunno. But since you and yours cry "Treason!!!! for everything you can Gin up, it makes you look foolish....and you are wearing out your credibility. (See also the "boy who cried wolf") Instead of throwing everything you can to see what sticks, FIND something REAL and CONCRETE. Otherwise when you DO find something (if you can) no one will believe you anymore.
Your claims sound cool to others with TDS, but to the rest of the country, you just keep screeching with nothing to back it.
B, you're drifting off into Dunning-Kruger territory here. She read you the statute. If oppo research isn't a thing of value, why do campaigns pay so much for it?
ReplyDeleteSadly, it probably won't matter anyway. Even if Jr. is indicted for the obvious crime he just confessed to, do you really think his father will even wait for him to suffer the indignity of a trial before issuing a full pardon?
Or any of his other staff, really. At least after Watergate people went to jail.
And for that matter, when Mueller and his team get through with their investigation, do you really believe the poltroons in this congress will act on any of his recommendations?
I wish I could say that justice will just have to wait until the Democrats are back in power, but last I checked, Cheney and his band of torturers are all still at large after two years of full Democratic control of the government.
So I guess all I have to say is that I told you this was a bad idea, and you did it anyway, and now we all get to suffer the consequences.

B., you mention treason again...and only you mention it in this story and it's responses...unless we are answering the strawman you toss out.
ReplyDeleteB., you mention Hillary's "server misdeeds", while failing to acknowledge that Hillary didn't configure/run/maintain/secure the server, but that people she employed did. So, if she is guilty because her employee/associate did X on her behest, then Donnie is guilty when his employee/associate does something on his behest. You can't have it both ways, and Hillary's activities have been reviewed by the FBI and (a Republican) Congress, prosecutions zero. Let's see if Donnie can beat that number, I bet he can.
B., again you suggest TDS (Trump Delusion Syndrome) explains everything, you're right...you are suffering a huge case..
TDS is also Trump Denial Syndrome: Trump could pump seven rounds into Preibus and those suffering from TDS would find some sort of rationale for the shooting. Because Hillary. Hillary lost the election and neither you guys nor Donald Trump can seem to let go. In the words of Trump: SAD!
ReplyDeleteBut I have to love you guys on the Right. Next time you have a beef with somebody, punch them out and, when the cops come, try the line of "that guy over there punched somebody and you didn't charge him." See how that works for you.
Trump Denial Syndrome: An excellent point...One I check myself for everyday. I also had to check myself for Barry Derangement for the past 8 years.
ReplyDeleteWhich does not make anything I stated above untrue, however. Trump *HAS* driven many of his opponents beyond rationality. Trump hasn't committed treason Hillary Has (We have Comey's statements and the FBI reports telling us that....Lynch just chose not to prosecute). You can wish he had committed Treason all you want, but until you PROVE it, then you merely have wishes. I'm sure they go over well with like minded friends, but those wishes won't get rid of Trump.
Really. What foreign power was involved there?
ReplyDeleteTrump used to claim that he was a "detail man". You really believe that Junior, his campaign manager and his son-in-law took a meeting with someone who promised to have damaging intel on Clinton which originated from the Russian government and Trump didn't know?
Kelly Ann came to the conclusion there was no collusion, only illusion and delusion.
ReplyDeleteI see an e-mail paper trail fail that could lead to jail.
I'm sorry.
Dale
I think the treason reference may have come from the whole "Help a hostile government attack our government" thingie...
