ReplyDeleteMost steam locomotives aren't set up to provide services to modern passenger cars. (The first few generations of diesels had boilers to provide steam for heating.)
Also, if there is an issue that causes the steam locomotive to have to drop its fires, the diesel can take over. Or provide additional tractive force if necessary. (Or if the steam locomotive is for show.)
Ah, I wondered. 'Cause the diesel in that car was working hard.
