The wait for Star Trek: Discovery is almost over. After two premiere date delays and a showrunner switch, the hotly-anticipated revival is finally launching on September 24 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS, and it can't come soon enough.I'm hoping that its run is short and has few viewers.
After the show's broadcast debut, the second episode of Discovery will be available immediately on CBS All Access, the network's digital subscription live streaming service, which will be the exclusive home of the series for the rest of its run.
"CBS All Access"-- what a fucking laugh. The "B" stands for "Broadcast", not "subscription". If they wanted to set up a pay channel, they could at least had the guts to call it something else entirely, like "The Greedy Fuckers Channel (where you're stupid enough to pay for mediocre programming)".
It makes sense for CBS to start building a streaming lineup, since that's clearly where the market is heading, and I wouldn't even mind paying for it as long as there was a good catalog of other shows to go along with it. The thing is there's basically Elementary and then a whole bunch of old person shows like NCIS Season Please Kill Us Now. The biggest problem is that they expect cable subscribers to double pay and that everyone else on the planet gets it on Netflix. It's like they're trying to do this in the most ham-handed way possible and betting that Trek fans are willing to pony up to get the service off the ground.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they'll see the disparity in people watching on Netflix vs their crappy service, and get the idea that it'd be better to just use Netflix for distribution.
