It's Not Perjury When You're a Republican; Russian Ties Ed.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions talked twice with Russia's ambassador to the United States during the presidential campaign, the Justice Department confirmed, communications that spurred calls in Congress for him to recuse himself from an investigation into Russian interference in the U.S. election.

Sessions, an early supporter of President Donald Trump's candidacy and a policy adviser to the Republican, did not disclose those discussions at his Senate confirmation hearing in January when asked what he would do if "anyone affiliated" with the campaign had been in contact with officials of the Russian government.

Sessions replied that he had not had communications with the Russians.
Sessions is claiming that he only met with the Russian ambassador twice, and it was in connection with his post as a member of the Armed Services Committee.

I smell horseshit. I'm going to bet that the number of other senators on that committee who have had meetings with a Russian ambassador is somewhere between zero and a very tiny number.
The Washington Post contacted all 26 members of the 2016 Senate Armed Services Committee to see whether any lawmakers besides Sessions met with Kislyak in 2016. Of the 20 lawmakers who responded, every senator, including Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.), said they did not meet with the Russian ambassador last year. The other lawmakers on the panel did not respond as of Wednesday evening.
Note also that Sessions is saying. in effect: "Why, my stars, I simply cannot remember what the Russian ambassador and I discussed during out meetings."

Right.

I have to close this out, but Sessions was in the Senate when Bill Clinton was undergoing impeachment for the Lewinsky affair. I'm pretty sure that Sessions is on the record as saying that people who dissemble and lie under oath ought to have the moral fiber to resign their government jobs.

But I gather it's different if you're a Republican.

  4. Yeah, they're gonna have to "both sides" the shit out of this one to make it go away. But when they do, it probably will, just like it always does.
