Deplorable at Work

How is not anything other than racism?
It was girls’ day out, and Diana Carrillo had abandoned her desire to eat healthy well before she, her sister and two friends got to the Southern California restaurant. The destination: Saint Marc, an upscale spot in the seaside city of Huntington Beach, where Carrillo had been once before.

As the waiter walked up to the table, Carrillo figured she’d splurge on the grilled-cheese sandwich and pay the $2 up-charge to add some of the restaurant’s signature bacon. To start, maybe she’d share a watermelon and cheese plate with her sister and friends.

But the mood soured quickly after the waiter appeared. Before he could serve the four Latina women, he said, they needed to show proof of residency. “I need to make sure you’re from here,” he said.
What that waiter now needs is a new job, for they fired him as soon as the shit hit the fan.

  1. Washington Post. No bias there.

Having said that, I'm glad the waiter was fired. Now if they had been applying for a job.....

Sounds pretty air-tight to me, WaPo or not.

  3. B, why attack the source? You presume that outlet A is biased and outlet B is not, you're gonna get hosed. Reading the story, it's clear the incident happened and the server has been fired, why try to add an adgenda? Why not read the story, do a couple of quick checking, and THEN comment?

  4. Here is why...this one line they HAD to post:

"She told The Post that she wondered if the employee’s insulting request was a result of “who is President.”"

Otherwise it was a good story. But this has been happening more and more, even BEFORE the election, simply because folks are tired of the illegals. I don't condone it, but I do understand.

But the WP HAS to find a reason to blame Trump for everything. It starts to become pedantic after a while.

  5. Puke, the agenda had already been added when our esteemed host, the Misfit, mentioned a 'deplorable' ie, Trump supporter. In fact, this whole blog is full of political bias. I only come here hoping to hear some engine noise and now just for laffs. Why, even last week's post ostensibly about aircraft contained yet again a reference to Trump. It's a big yawn, a broken record. For the laffs, mind you.

  6. Ann 1620, I have never been shy about where my sympathies lie. One need only read the header for the blog.

  7. Anon: No one forces you to read her blog. I often disagree, but I CHOOSE to come here.

If you don't like it, don't let the internet hit you on the ass on the way out.

It's not like her bias isn't obvious.

  8. I think it's interesting to watch capitalists find out that bigotry is bad for business. Looking for consistency in modern conservative ideology is a fool's errand.

I am glad to live somewhere where not only are we not "tired of the illegals" but you won't hear anyone call undocumented people that, and there are entire vibrant, prospering, neighborhoods anchored around businesses started decades ago by immigrants before they were citizens.

  9. So quoting the subject of a story is running with an agenda now? Who, what, where, when, why and how were the elements of a news story I was taught. Who was Latina's, what was disparate treatment, where was this establishment, when was established as a visit to a place they had been before, with no issue, why is discussed in the story and addressed with this quote (in the victims opinion), how was the demand for ID. Seems like good reporting, why complain, SAD!

  10. The other story didn't include the quote.

  11. True. Because then they would've been quoting the Post.

Your point, B, is what exactly?

Look, I know since the election of Cheeolini, conservatives who defend him are in the exact position of someone tasked with selling milkshakes made with shit as Dark Chocolate Organic Fair Trade Dairy Delights, but doesn't it just get a little tired after a while?

    youse gonna makea d'fish
    real happy, kapiche??

Wanna wiseabove to Seventh-Heaven where we can do ANYTHING 'n EVERYTHING we wanna besides High Mass on Sundays? or not?? Up2yoo. In this finite existence, we gotta only 2 choices, baby, and 1 of em aint too cool (-as Jimmy Hoffa used to say): Hell's very hot, very lonely, very stanky, as you're placed where you desire most. Jesus doesn't condemn: WE CONDEMN OURSELVES - lookit David Rockefella. Was he condemned for eugenics, greed, abortion?? or did he cry-out at the LastSecond to Jesus??? Dunno. Jesus only reads the script of OUR lifetime; what's placed before Him according to OUR lifelong demise. Yes, earthling, I was an NDE. Any questions?
