Vice President Mike Pence on Monday said both he and President Trump support a "free and independent press."I've no problem with that, as long as it's understood that what Pence galls "facts" is often "the delusional impressions of Trump's lunatic mind".
"But you can anticipate that the president and all of us will continue to call out the media when play fast and loose with the facts," Pence said during a news conference Monday from Brussels.
"The truth is that we have in President Trump someone who has a unique ability to speak directly to the American people, and when the media gets it wrong, I promise you, President Trump will take his case straight to the American people to set the record straight.”
But let's be clear on this: Pence isn't speaking for Trump. Pence and Mattis are trying to make nice with NATO, but as recently as last month, Trump called NATO "obsolete". Trump will tweet whatever flits into his mind at 0330 and if it's horribly off-message, he's not going to give a rat's ass. Because, when it comes to Trump's foreign policy, there isn't one.
It's almost funny that the message that the Trump Administration is trying to peddle to other nations is "pay no attention to the Lunatic-in-Chief."
Remember the rumor floating around that when Trump got the nomination he sent someone (one of the Trump sons, I think) to offer Kasic the Vice Presidency? Kasich was told he would be doing the work of the President and when he asked what Trump would be doing he was told "He will be making America great again." I think they just haven't gotten their stage directions straightened out. I expect Trump may spend increasing amounts of time in Florida while Pence stays in D.C. and works. We will see.

Trump does support a free and independent press. As long as it isn't calling him out on facts, policy, statements, and such.
ReplyDeleteI can see they are trying hard to keep "The wooden termite" out of the muck.
ReplyDeleteThe "lying from Flynn", the 'apology tour' to our allies. I see it as trying to keep Pence on the good side of public relations, so that he can ascend to the throne when "Cheetolini" self destructs in the near future.
it's inevitable that tRump will soon self destruct, either from mental defects or constitutional defects.
