Dubya Continues Firing on Donnie

“I don’t like the racism and I don’t like the name-calling and I don’t like the people feeling alienated,” Bush, 70, tells PEOPLE in an interview for the new issue of the magazine on newsstands Friday. ... "I didn’t feel like speaking out before because I didn’t want to complicate the job and I’m not going to this time. However, at the Bush Center we are speaking up.”

The couple list some of the center’s work that stands in contrast to Trump’s isolationism: immigration ceremonies, women’s reproductive-health programs in Africa, and leadership training for Muslim women that the Bush Center brings to Texas from the Middle East. Asked if Trump’s determination to restrict immigration and travel from Muslim countries threatens the Bush Center programs, he shrugs. “Now that you mention it, it might bother me but we’ll figure out how to bring them over.”
Reading between the lines, when the Bush Center speaks out to criticize the Orange Dumbster Fire, you can be pretty certain that it's GWB who's the shot-caller.

  1. Agog. A word I seldom find a use for, is very appropriate here. Whether maturity after leaving office and reflecting or some other reason, GWB is sounding like a true statesman. I would have bet a lot on me never saying such a thing.

  2. Wait a minute. I remember his presidency. "He wasn't as bad as the new one" doesn't work with me, or the thousands of dead US troops, or the tens of thousands of dead Iraqis.
Yes, I wish Trump was smart enough to take the same advice that W and Obama did from the intelligence services, but I will respectfully deny attempts to revise history as to what actually happened. Also:

  3. @dinthebeast,
The difference between W and Trump is qualitative, not quantitive. Bush at least seems to have acknowledged the need to operate inside the rule of law and established norms of governance. Trump just wants to tear that all down as fast as possible, so he can do whatever the hell he wants, unimpeded.
There is far more at stake here than good or bad policy or even a decision to go to war. The fact that the previous record holder for most right-wing modern president is taking notice of that speaks volumes as the seriousness of the situation.
