Otto Frederick Rohwedder was born in Davenport, Iowa.

I have little doubt that everyone who reads this has benefited from his work.

Mr. Rohwedder was the inventor of the bread-slicer, an invention that he worked on for sixteen years before submitting the patent application. His machine automatically sliced a loaf and then wrapped it.

Without his machine, the toaster likely would have not sold very well, as it worked best with bread that was uniformly sliced.

  1. Without him, what would any invention be better than?
