Young Men Fleeing Syria?

I posted this as a comment, but it's worth a separate post:

Tell me, people, why is it such a surprise that young men are fleeing Syria? If they stayed, they'd get impressed into the Syrian Army or Daesh or some other group. It it any shock that they're not terribly interested in becoming cannon fodder for either a brutal dictator or a pack of Stone-age theology terrorists?

Based on the past several years, the risk is minuscule.
Of the 745,000 refugees resettled since September 11th, only two Iraqis in Kentucky have been arrested on terrorist charges, for aiding al-Qaeda in Iraq.
You grab up 745,000 random citizens and you're probably going to find a large number of thieves, rapists and a couple of dozen murderers. Based on that, a country that had the same degree of paranoia as the Gutless Governors would be foolish to accept any American emigres.

Funny how the same people who have wet dreams about fighting oppression are also pissing their pants like terrified puppies.

UPDATE: Can I get an amen for this?

  1. Don't want 'em. Not until someone can explain to me how it's in America's best interest to take them in.

    1. Murphy, America has been well served by immigrants throughout it's history. One of those young men could be the next Salk or Gates or such. They undergo a background check and are monitored in the US, are you saying you don't trust the agencies your support having such broad search and tracking rights?

  3. Hans, then we do need those guys. Too many of American youth are fat, stupid, or overly tattooed. Most of them are 4F.

  4. Yeah, we would, and it worked pretty well for the Brits in WW2. But getting up a General Mobilization n 200 divisions presupposes we're serious about playing that sort of game... I think we're playing a different game entirely... somebody over at Pat Lang's joint spelled it out pretty well see http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2015/11/experiencing-the-nemesis-of-hubric-exceptionalismwho-are-we-now-origin.html

  6. "One of those young men could be the next Salk or Gates or such." Well if that's going to be the guiding motivation, we should probably ban all abortions, too. After all, any one of the babies killed because they are"inconvenient" might have grown up to be the next Ronald Reagan or Stephen Hawking too.

But that's all theoretical. One need only look at the Somalians that the Clinton Administration brought here in the 90's to see what we can expect when we bring a third-world population that is foreign to and hostile towards our culture into our nation. Two decades on, we're still supporting most all of them on welfare, a number have gone back to Somalia to engage in terroristic jihad, and many of those still here are now gang members who prey on the very people whose government took them in. Benefit to America? Bupkis.
