Of course, anytime somebody seriously proposes any sort of program to help veterans, what you get is the Usual Crowd carping about how much money it'll cost and that money will have to be taken from somewhere else (usually another social services program) to make up for it, because budget.
Which is all just a shipload of bullshit.
When the same clowns who say that want to propose more tax cuts for the rich (looking at you, Johnny E. Bush), they never talk about the massive hole it'll blow in the Federal budget. Because as long as the rich get richer, they don't give a fuck. They'll make up the loss by cutting social services (almost never the military, except maybe the Army's personnel budget).
Because, let's face it, homeless vets don't make political donations. Rich people do. Which is why the politicians respond to their concerns on a day-to-day basis.
The same crowd that now says "let's help our vets instead of helping foreign refugees" are the same people who have been against helping vets to begin with.
So, to the people who are so righteously passing around this image, I say to you, with all due respect:
You disgust me.
Guess we'll have to rewrite all that "huddled masses" and "wretched refuse" stuff...

I've never heard of any such law.
I suppose it's fair to expect such a privilege for those who became disabled (and thus unable to earn their living) while serving in military or CG (and not doing any forbidden nonsense). It's also fair to expect VA to be fixed ASAP and medical bills covered in a timely fashion.
I don't see why former military personnel ought to be more immune to poverty than the general population, though. I don't see any good reason for such a privilege. ~80% of the army, ~90% of the navy and ~95% of the air force job are cushy and very much unlike infantry, combat medic or sapper jobs.
They don't give a shit about our homeless vets. Or ANY vets... damn them
ReplyDeleteI bet we could do both, and for a reasonable length of time for the cost of one Ohio class submarine. Maybe I'm naive, but 17 of them seems like enough to me. Since they're planning on replacing a few of them by 2029, why not budget to replace one fewer, and use the two billion dollars for something else, these two issues, for example?
ReplyDeleteI'll go ahead and answer that myself: Because the whole "the government doesn't have the money" argument is utter bullshit. We didn't have the money for chimpy's wars, either, but we sure got right on with fighting them.
