Away at Class, Dammit!

I'm in class and I can't react to Boehner's plan to resign.

Live boy? Dead girl? Tired of dealing with the jackasses in his caucus? Impending indictments?

Stay tuned.....

  1. Why look a gift horse in the mouth? Just be glad he's gone. We, the People, elected the Republicans to lead Congress and the country, and Boehner was nothing but a Quisling Democrat-lite. Hopefully we finally get the conservative leadership that America voted for and they can start reversing the damage that Obama and his toadies have done to this great nation of ours.

    Next target: Mitch McConnell.

  2. Right, and with the filibuster and/or veto, how will that fix anything?

  3. We could get a new, reich-wing Speaker to drive a shutdown just before voting starts in 2016, energizing the reach-wingers to raise one of their idols to victory (Ted Cruz, perhaps) in the race to be the Republican standard bearer. Followed by a huge turnout of moderate and centrists in the election to ensure that he loses, and a flip of the House and Senate. No less likely than Murph's pipe-dreams...and certainly a better outcome for Democracy.

  5. "moderate and centrists"... When I think of politics as viewed when I first became aware of it, I think you would need the NSA's best spy satellite to see that far to the right, just to view the middle-ground. Of course, to see where it was at our country's founding from that point would require the Hubble Telescope.

We have come a long ways from that political point, but we don't have far to go to reach our nation's end point.

History is always a human's worst subject. We never seem to be able to learn anything from it, whether from observation or experience.

  6. Democrats don't like Boehner, but they admire his skill. He's got a clean appropriation bill ready to go for FY 2016, so this year's fine. It will be interesting to see what his successor does next September. Will they force the Executive Branch to stop sending out Social Security checks, five weeks before the election?

more and more closely, the inner soul of the people.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach
their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

The GOP's high water mark there was Dubya, but with the Circus Train full of loons, who knows?

In NPR's live coverage, one of the reporterati said she's heard from his staff that Boehner said that in growing up working in his family tavern, he learned you have to deal with whatever morons rolled through the door...that it was valuable experience for dealing with whomever the People Elected.
