May the Creators of Microsoft Word Spend Eternity Having Their Flesh Barbecued and Feasted Upon by Demons

That is all.

  2. Word was OK in earlier incarnations.

The latest (2007 and later) are difficult.

What was on the tool bar is now 3, 4 or 5 layers down and not where you would expect them.

Just like the Gubmint mandated obfuscation to save the polar bears the trouble of dying from global warming and thus balanced the budget.

  3. Gawd, I can't remember the last time I used Word, or Office for that matter. I've been mostly using Linux for the last decade, so I've been using LibreOffice as my local productivity suite. But I do 99% of everything in Google Docs. The page layout is not accurate enough for a some work (in those cases I tend to use Inkscape anyway), but for most writing, spreadsheet and presentation tasks it's great, and you never have to worry about storing your files and not being able to get to them. Plus, the indexed search is amazing - I've got thousands of files on GDocs and finding stuff is simple...

  5. LibreOffice rocks regardless of what platform you run it on -- Windows, Mac, or Linux. It's full featured and much easier to use than Word. Unfortunately its document export also isn't 100% compatible with Word. If the person receiving your document uses Word, you'll need to check that it looks okay with Word before you hand it over, otherwise you'll look like an idiot. And nobody wants to hire a lawyer who looks like an idiot, so. Word. Sigh.

  6. I still fondly remember the simplicity of WordPerfect, 4.2 (I believe) and then 5. Put the little command guide stick (or, if you had the side rectangle function layout, the surround) over the function keys...commands in red, green or blue, depending on which key to hold with the function key. Monochrome monitors, simple formatting, and a word count on the bottom of the screen, just what a college student ordered!
