All the Cool Kids Do It; Gunnie Edition

...not cleaning their guns after they've been to the range. They'll clean them, maybe, every 2,000 rounds or so.

I can't do it. It feels wrong. It's like leaving the bugs on the wings after flying, or leaving a sink full of filthy dishes when going out.

And while I might not thoroughly clean a .22, I'll still wipe it down after I'm done shooting it.

  1. You clean it before you put it away. That's what I was taught.

  2. The one thought that I have read is that "you want it to shoot exactly like the very last time you fired it" and cleaning "can" change that. In effect I think that thought is clean it before you shoot it, if you have time.

  3. You don't have to remind me that I'm weird but to me, cleaning and oiling my guns after shooting them is half the fun.
    Must be my mechanic's background.
