Shorter Bibi: "I'm Not a Racist, I Just Play One When I Need to Motivate My Base."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he regrets statements he made last week during his country’s elections, when he warned that “Arabs are voting in droves” in an attempt to get his supporters to vote.

“I know that the things I said a few days ago hurt some citizens in Israel, the Arab Israeli citizens,” Netanyahu said in a meeting with Arab community leaders, according to The Jerusalem Post.

“This was not my intention and I am sorry,” he said, adding that he sees himself as prime minister of every Israeli, regardless of religion, race or sex.
Well, if you parse his words, you'll see that Netanyahu's not one bit sorry for what he said. He's sorry if people were hurt by his words. Which is just the same sort of "I'm sorry if you were offended" non-apology language that American public figures use when they're caught being racist, sexist or homophobic.

  1. That is why I love President Obama stating "We take him at his word" about a Palestinian state. Words have consequences. Netanyahu is now having to walk back what he said, but his actions will have to speak louder his words, and I don't see that happening.
