(CNN) -- The deadly Ebola virus has been contracted by someone inside the United States for the first time.I am pretty sure that, however this plays out, they'll figure out how to blame the nurse for contracting the disease. Because the first rule of bureaucracy, whether it is the hospital, the local health department, the state health department* or the Feds, is "cover thy ass". After that rule is adhered to, then maybe fixing a problem is on the table.
A nurse who had worn protective gear during her "extensive contact" at a Dallas hospital with an Ebola patient who died tested positive during a preliminary blood test, officials said Sunday.

I can't help but think that if this had occurred in any other State, then it would have been only the one case.
ReplyDeleteThanks Texas

Let's not nuke Texas. It costs too much money and no telling where that fallout might be blown. We can instead just build a wall around the state to keep 'em out of America.
ReplyDeleteOh, and as for bureaucracies, according to my Guide To Trouble Free Bureaucracy, when a situation like this one arises, the first thing to do is find the lowest possible person on the totem pole and heap all the blame on him or her.
Otherwise, people might start looking at a healthcare system that places so much emphasis on "productivity" that professionals don't have enough time to evaluate patients or do thorough examinations. Anmd that might lead to greedy insurance companies and budget-chopping politicians.
So here's how we'll work it instead: "You got a fever. Take two aspirin and call me in a week if you're not feeling better. Next!"
Yours very crankily,

It sure changes my mind about a border fence. Just include Texas and they'd have my vote.

Just finished listening to some race baiter say if this gentleman hadn't been poor and black he wouldn't be dead. If he was so POOR how did he pay for his airline ticket to Texas? Hell, I can't even afford an airline ticket from Kentucky to Michigan. He flew from Africa to Texas? Who paid for his ticket?-Johnny Gee
ReplyDeleteYou are/were exactly right. The spokespeople are putting this case down to "protocol violations" with the use of the protective gear. Something about not removing it correctly.
ReplyDeleteThis virus is scary and dangerous, but I refuse to be stampeded and manipulated by faux news style fear mongering. As an antidote for those familiar: The Walking Dead ( caution: contains Rick Perry )
