The Pro-Militarization of Police Camp is Counting On You to Forget About Them

“This militarized policing thing – it’s all political chest-beating,” said [Alameda County] narcotics officer {Steve} Lenthe, expressing a view shared by many Swat officers and vendors who talked to the Guardian. “Americans have short memories and when something else happens all this knee-jerk stuff about military equipment will all be blown away.”
Let's prove to Officer Lenthe that he is wrong, shall we?

  1. Officer Lenthe will probably prove himself wrong. The idea of highly trained officers sitting around waiting for a once in 10-20 year event has the SWATs being used for ordinary policing and the likelihood of another Ferguson is much greater than any thing they might be useful for, if such a thing exists.

  2. This is such utter bullshit. The rate of violent crime has been falling for years. They're just pissed off because people are carrying around recording devices now and they can't get away with the shit they pull by just lying anymore. But get this guys: no matter how much you dress up like a soldier we're still going to know it's you in the cell-phone video.

  3. Remember when the cops used to at least act like they cared about public opinion?

If this really is a viewpoint shared by a lot of cops, they're going to be in for a very rude shock.
